The Snow Is Here!

After much hype, the first second snowfall of 2011 is here. City officials say the city is ready—it's a "weather emergency"—but admitted the commute will probably suck (the MTA has also listed how it's preparing for the snow). You can share your photographs with us by sending them to photos@gothamist.com or tagging them "gothamist" on Flickr. And let us know how snow plowing and mass transit seem (you can leave a comment, or contact us at photos@gothamist.com or tips@gothamist.com).

  • robingee

    Hipster plows?

(That's my name. That name again is Hipster Plow.)

  • 69GeorgeWBush69

A hipster joke about Williamsburg? Comedic genius right here, folks!

69 and "george w. bush" should be the two farthest things apart... i hope. i really really hope -- oh no, the (automatic) imagery...

  • americaonline

He lives in Williamsburg, he was obviously being ironic.

  • 69GeorgeWBush69

Yes, everyone in WBurg is an ironic hipster. All the more reason for you guys not to come here.

  • americaonline

I bet everyone in williamsburg carries around 10,000 spoons when they really want a knife too.

  • chuzzlewit

lol - it's true! also in williamsburg young groovy diabetics on their way to buy insulin often get run over by sugar trucks!

edit - forgot to write "hipster" in comment.fixed.

"i'm gonna have a hipster sandwich for lunch today."
    "i'd like a hipster coffee, hipster-size please."
"my hipster really hipsters her hipster dog -- y'know, it's a hipster."
    "ruff ruff. hipster, hipster."
    "hipster hipster, hipster hipster?"
"hipster hipster hipster, hipster hipster hipster; hipster hipster..."

  • robingee

    Screw you, I'm funny.

(and it was a Simpson's joke)

  • valeriob

It's actually funny because it's a Simpson's reference to Mister Plow, when Homer took up plowing and had a theme song & commercial to compete with The Plow King (Barney).
You're just mad that you live in Wburg.

  • 69GeorgeWBush69

I watched the Simpsons regularly as a kid so I got the reference. The fact is the joke isn't creative or funny, as most hipster jokes aren't. FYI, I really enjoy my piece of WBurg. I have a nice, large apartment a block away from the subway that I pay peanuts for compared to a Manhattan equivalent. Also, I don't have to deal with self-absorbed, Burberry-drenched Manhattanites.

Anyway, back to the snow. LOOK AT ALL THAT SNOW!

  • robingee

OK OK you're a wonderful person with a great life. Sheesh.

"When two best friends work together, not even God Himself can stop them."
    "Oh no?"

  • robingee

"The forecast calls for flurries of passion, followed by...

...extended periods of gettin' it on."

  • americaonline

my commute was smoother today than it is 90% of the time.

  • Dan

Yeah, less people on the train.

  • americaonline

Trains had about the same amount of people on them.

  • S.D.

My Express buss was on normal time, but empty.

  • Guest

    fewer snows than i thought.
