Coach's Bad Pitch Turns Student Off Baseball Forever

Christopher Mallette of Brooklyn's Bishop Ford High School has filed a lawsuit against assistant coach Dharyl Russell, claiming he intentionally hit him in the face with a baseball, which caused him to need reconstructive surgery. Mallette had reportedly asked his coach to slow his pitches during practice, but the coach beaned him in the face and allegedly told him to "suck it up" and go home. Mallette said, “It can’t be a freak accident." However, both the Post and CBS 2 say the most heartbreaking thing is that Mallette most likely won't be picking up the sport again.

Mallette suffered a fractured right eye socket and cheekbone; he said, "Why else would you throw a ball at my face? The purpose of the drill was to throw the ball completely in front of me. Nowhere near me, pretty much." Lawyer Jeffrey Antin told the Post, "It's outrageous they would allow this to happen—and even more outrageous they let him go home by himself when he was obviously in dire need of medical attention." There's no crying in baseball, but luckily for Mallette there's no rule against suing.
