Garbage Jumper Not Paralyzed After All

201101_anothertrashpile.jpg The young man whose suicide attempt last weekend was thwarted by a garbage pile is not going to be paralyzed, as had previously been suspected. Vangelis Kapatos, 26, is currently recovering at Bellevue hospital and his aunt reports he is responding to family members and will recover. It remains to be seen if he'll get to stay in the apartment whose years of back rent appears been a factor in the attempt. But after an incident like this, and with a building shareholders like that, now seems as good a time to make a fresh start as any.

It's ironic that of all the people whose lives were seriously endangered as a direct result of the Bloomberg administration's snow-handling incompetence, the one person apparently saved by that same incompetence would be a wacked-out drug/alcohol abuser and rent deadbeat.
