Person Struck By G Train At Classon Avenue Stop

Just after 1:30 a.m., there were reports of delays on the G train due to a police investigation at the Classon Avenue station. A reader told us, "I was riding a G train on the south bound side just after 1:30am when it came to a screeching halt halfway into the Classon Ave Station. Directly in front of me out the opposite window was a male sprawled out at the very edge and back end of the platform, his feet, legs and bottom half of his torso visible from the train window, his upper torso, legs, and head invisible from that vantage point."

She continued:

People on the platform were crying out. There was an undercover cop there within seconds and a slew of police, EMTs, FDNY folks, etc. within 2 mins. The conductor ushered us out of the train by having us walk forward to an open door where police ordered us out of the station. I believe he was alive when we left the station. I am hoping he still is... There were 5 emergency vehicles outside when I emerged from underground and sirens heading to the area from every direction. A mass of people eventually started hoofing it to the C train, buses, etc.

Someone suggested on Twitter that the man was drunk. NYC Transit tells us that there was a "1:31 a.m. report of customer lying close to platform edge of Classon Av Station" and the man was "struck in head by Church Ave bound G train." He was taken to Kings County Hospital; his condition is unknown. We're waiting to see if the NYPD has info as well.

Damn. Two people hit by G trains?! Just a couple of weeks ago I wrote about the near-impossibility of ONE person getting whacked by a train that makes unicorn appearances seem like old news..

There's nothing impossible about it, just idiocy - and there's plenty of that available.

About 2 people a week get struck by trains. Think of a way, and it's probably happened.

  • I was on the same G train, in the first car, and no one that was on that train (including the person who tweeted about it) was in any position to assess whether or not the man was drunk. A man on the platform who saw it happen told me that the man had been looking to watch the train come in, and as it came in he turned around, facing away from the train, and the front of the train hit him in the back of the head, knocking him down. The witness said nothing about the man appearing to be drunk. He may have been, of course, but the witness didn't see evidence of it. The witness gave the man his sweater to keep him warm while help came.

  • I appreciate your post. I am a really close friend of the young man and reading these other posts have made me extremely angry. Regardless of the facts surrounding the accident, someone was hurt. I am pretty sure if it was someone they knew their comments would have been different. Think before you speak. He is the most loving person you could EVER meet. Those of us that do know him love him dearly. We love you and pray for the best.

Getting hit by the G is a feat in itself. You'd have to wait forever to get hit by a G. He should have had time to pee, crawl down on the tracks to rummage through the debris, crawl back up, sit a while, then finally amble over to place yourself just at the right spot in the center of the station. He should get an award just for getting hit by it.

  • look you insensitive ass what if that was your family that got hit by a train. He is my brother you fucking jerk and he had no enemy in the world, and he didnt deserve that!!! you need to think before you speak cause what goes around comes around 10x worse.

Looks like someone's new years resolution was not to see 2012.

I was on the next train - people from that train ran back to mine. Witnesses on my train said the guy definitely seemed drunk, and that he may have been taking a pee.
Someone also passed out on my train, and people were fighting.
It was a good reminder that even going to a nearby neighborhood on New Year's Eve is crap.

What is it about people getting hit by trains lately, and why the G? I take that train everyday and it gets delayed enough without some one getting it by it...
