Bloomberg Has A Heart, Suspends Parking Meter Rules

It's a Christmas miracle! Bloomberg seems to have learned his lesson from 2007's parking PR disaster, and has suspended parking meter rules for today. The NYPD will not be issuing parking meter tickets, because in order to do so, they would have to find the parking meters under the snow first.

Bloomberg insists that "1,700 plows are at the ready" to clear the city's streets of snow, and that the Sanitation Department will suspend trash and recycling pickup tomorrow. Of course once the snow melts, the parking prices will continue their upwards march, so enjoy the reprieve while you can.

They were in effect in the morning, but were cancelled later on during the day.

I checked nyc.gov and in the morning it said that alternate parking was suspended, but meters weren't. Now it says everything is suspended.

Why has most of the media said parking meters are effect?
