Will History Detective Track John Wilkes Booth To Atlantic Avenue?

jwbtunnel.jpg Earlier this month Brad Meltzer's Decoded show premiered on the History Channel, and Atlantic Avenue tunnel enthusiast Bob Diamond has just alerted us that tonight the show may be talking about original tunnel dweller John Wilkes Booth! Diamond believes he hid out down there after shooting the 16th President, and that his diary still remains hidden inside, which would "reveal who hired him to shoot Abraham Lincoln."

It's not clear if the show will talk about the (recently shut down) tunnel, but for at least one episode they do head to New York City to uncover mysteries of the Statue of Liberty. In this preview Meltzer declares: "What did they intend when they put that torch in the air? You will not look at Lady Liberty the same!" Color us intrigued.

not for nothing, if he had a better way of getting people in and out he might stand a chance. When he gives these tours, Atlantic ave between Columbia St to Smith St turns into a parking lot.

Booth's movements after the assassination are quite well-known. He hid out in the Maryland woods David Herold, later crossing the river into Virginia where he was shot. There is no evidence whatsoever that he went anywhere near New York.
