Stolen Newspaper Box Recovered!

costbox1210a.jpg The newspaper box that was adorned by graffiti artist COST for Showpaper has been recovered. Phew, right?! The box was part of a one-day installation before being brought back out to the street to dispense the publication, but shortly after it (as well as a couple others) was stolen. The COST box was put up for auction on eBay, where it reached a $4,200 bid, but now Animal reports that Andrew H. Shirley, the curator for the project, has recovered it and is now seeking a public space (indoors) to put it on display. How did they talk the Brooklyn man who stole the box into giving it back? Some good ol' fashioned legal threats, and a phone call from COST himself.

well, seeing as animalny.com seem to have the story above in a knot, i left a comment and it was never approved and looks like my ip-address is block.

1.)The box was at a ''stand off'' of being returned because Todd Patrick went to the police station and filed a police report.I grew up where you never get the police involved in any issues, especially if they have to do with this none sense. nyc finest could easy flip the script to showpaper or even worse the artist. Thats playing with fire.

2.) After talking to ''Andrew H. Shirley'' and knowing i am unable to get on terms with todd, i agreed to make arrangements to return the box. Andrews a good dude from my point of view and felt right.

3.) after my 3rd talk with andrew.I talked to cost on the phone, as Andrew gave him my number , Cost was upset about the issue and also explained to me he was mad about how it had no run time and is considered a diss, which i totally understand. we ened up having a long convo about graffiti and its state today ect. and i told him the full story on how i got the item which is a novel on its own. (If it was one of the other 3 people it could of been lost for ever its funny how things pan out)

4.) these people at show-paper have my name-cell number -address. I even had them come to my home! If the police never got involed i woulent of gotten so mad and had it escalade to where it got, but i been in bookings before for snitches, and even if i was in the wrong in some peoples eyes. you never snitch to the police i rather handle a fight or catch a beat down than deal with police.

When you step back for a second you almost thing this was a publicity stunt with all the media attn it got, and ill tell you why.Graffiti is sorta like football and street art is like mens lacrosse. even tho one is more gayer than the other they are both are considered sports and unfortunately sports have way to much fans...that have nothing to do with playing on the field but love to talk all the talk in the bleachers its why graffiti art is where it is today it has too many candyland fans. now im just ranting.

I am convinced that this comment is some Brooklyn-based artist's meta-commentary on the state of the modern art world.

Step back and look at it: A self-righteous defense of theft, the laughable grammar and lack of punctuation, the Kanye-level narcissism ("i told him the full story on how i got the item which is a novel on its own"), the crackhead's take on snitching, and the casual stupidity of phrases like "Graffiti is sorta like football and street art is like mens lacrosse. even tho one is more gayer than the other they are both are considered sports" - this is high-level satire. Spin this schtick out into a book lampooning all those street art photo books and make a million dollars.

There's no way this guy is real. If he is, that's amazing.
