2,000 Pound Wreath Cut From City Budget

You won't be seeing the gigantic wreath that has long adorned the Municipal Building (across from City Hall) this holiday season, the spirited decoration was cut from the budget, according to the NY Post. With that "bah humbug" news comes some interesting facts about the wreath, however. For instance: past wreaths cost around $3,500 and were assembled by city workers from live greenery ordered by officials. The festive centerpiece was around 10-feet wide and weighed a whopping 2,000 pounds! Now... to find out how much it costs to prop up that dead tree in Rockefeller Center each year (which is paid for by private funds, not the city).

A 10 ft wide xmas wreath that weighed a solid 2,000 lbs? How believable is that? What was it made of? Cement and steel? More likely, it weighed 200 lbs.

Do you really believe everything that you read in the NY Post?

Sorry, No cheer from the city unless you're a rich connected consultant.
Any news on those Citi Time payroll consultants accused of fraud to the tune of $80 million? A project that's costing the city over $600 million so far and rising.

Heading home to Brooklyn, I always loved seeing the wreath. Always. It's a huge part of my holiday ritual. For $3500, cutting it out, makes no sense in the scheme of things. I can think of "discretionary" items that are far more wasteful (co-chancellor anyone) (four suv's for the mayor anyone) and don't add a thing to our lives.

It's been a tough year for everyone. I think they could have found the funds and given us all some cheer.
