Sabra Ships Itself to White Plains

201012_sabra.jpg

After more than two decades in Queens, during which it became the biggest name in chick-pea spreads, and less than a year after it shipped its plant down to Virginia, hummus maker Sabra is leaving the city altogether. Over the next four months the company, which is owned fifty-fifty by Pepsi and an Israeli company called the Strauss Group (just ask the students at Princeton), aims to move its offices to an office park in White Plains. The move was a surprise to the city—they didn't find out until the announcement was made—but not to the state which organized the move to keep the tax revenue.

"The goal was to secure Sabra's presence in New York State and to avoid the immediate loss of 33 full-time jobs, as well as 32 new full-time jobs to be created over the next four years," Lisa Willner of the Empire State Development Corp told the Daily News. As we're still smarting over the Virginia move, though, we can't say we're too sad.

  • 32 jobs? I know jobs are important, but we give tax breaks to companies that save/create 70 jobs?!?

  • kekule

I'm not saying we should necessarily give them tax breaks, but what do you think is better: (1) giving tax breaks and having a relatively small decrease in tax revenues for the government to blow so that 70 people can keep their jobs or (2) not giving the tax breaks, letting 32+ people loss their jobs, and then have to give them public assistance, public housing, medical insurance (soon), etc.?

I go for the cheaper, more productive option #1.

But there's nothing here about tax breaks. It just said that NYS gets to keep the tax revenue.

  • bkgirl

food coop's boycotting them too as of a month ago.

  • kekule

I think a few hippies boycotting Sabra Hummus is not going to bankrupt the company. So you'll eat shitty hummus, donate the money you get from handouts for playing guitar in the subway to the PLO and other terrorist organizations, and everyone will be happy.

  • farleft

Awww...poor baby. Shedding tears in support of the occupation.

  • kekule

No tears. My side is winning. They don't call the left "bleeding hearts" for nothing. I like that you guys think you're supporting the little guy, but come on, when their stated mission is to kill of a group of people, your support of them does not earn you much credibility.

  • "my side"

laugh, if it were up to me id nuke the middle east. fuck israel, fuck palestine. enjoy your petty squabbles. your shitty comments only satisfy your inner retard.

  • farleft

Urghh. Sabra is a strong supporter of Israel's illegal occupation of Palestine, and there is currently a growing movement to boycott their products entirely. Good riddance, Sabra.

Hey jihad-lover, stop using your computer, since your OS and your chips were co-designed in in Israel. Ditto for texting.

  • kekule

    Go take your meds, buddy.

P.S. There was never a sovereign country called Palestine.

  • zionist scum, on gothami...oh wait, no surprise here.

    jihadi asslicker.

Kekule...Oh, really? Then why do the first words of Israel's "declaration of independence" in 1948 start with the words, "The state of Israel, Palestine..."? As if Israel's sovereignty was established under legal terms. Give me a break. Do us all a favor and burn your historical propaganda books...the state of Israel is illegal. One day, kiddo...it's gonna be one state.

  • kekule

Oh, and "kiddo", I doubt you've actually ever been to the middle east. But as someone that has, I can tell you that if you're a sane person, you'd much prefer living in Israel over any of the Muslim theocracies. I never understood why liberals support the countries that will stone you for being gay, having premarital sex, getting raped, blaspheming, speaking out against the government, etc.

Your talking points are all ones I've heard a thousand times. It's Zionism in all its glory...a despicable dream filled with racism, colonialism, apartheid, state-sponsored assassinations, and a wealthy propaganda campaign to support it all. No matter what you think or say, it doesn't matter. You know why? Because the time-clock is ticking, and Israel is being taken to task. There's no better story than of the innocent underdog (in this case, the Palestinians) triumphing over the oppressor (Israel et all). Oh, and by the way, "Israel" oppresses its Arab population far greater than most Arab regimes. Israel isn't a democracy. It's racism, personified.

" filled with racism, colonialism, apartheid, state-sponsored assassinations, "

sounds like every islamic and communist state.

"Oh, and by the way, "Israel" oppresses its Arab population far greater than most Arab regimes"

Really, that's why there are ARABS IN THE KNESSET, and that's why Israelis doctors treat almot 200,000 arabs from the PA controlled areas for free.

    "Israel isn't a democracy. It's racism, personified."

That must be why there are a 120,000 BLACK ETHIOPIAN JEWS living in Israel, while the Arabs RAN THE SLAVE TRADE TO AMERICA.

  • kekule

Do you have any facts, or is just all your barely comprehensible psycho babble?

Like I advised before, take your meds.

And please move to Iran, Iraq, Syria, or one of your other utopias.

  • farleft

It's actually quite amusing to see you try to defend Israel by desperately trying to discredit me and others who oppose military occupation through name-calling and propaganda. You sound pathetic...Can't expect much more from an internet troll, I guess.

  • kekule

It already is one state... Eretz Yisrael.

It was the Nazis that burned books by the way, not the Jews...

And I didn't say the area wasn't called Palestine, I said there was never a sovereign state called Palestine. But I don't expect you to appreciate or understand nuance, no matter how blatant. Your nickname after all indicates that you adhere to illogical, emotion based ideology with no bearing in the real world.

FYI: Muslims and Jews have lived in the area forever. The Jews were legally given dominion over part of the land from Britain, and purchased other parts of the land that became Israel. The Muslims (who we now call Palestinians to distinguish them from the Jews that we now call Israelis), refused a two state solution in 1948.

Then a bunch of Arab countries ganged up on Israel, Israel won the war in an embarrassingly short period of time, and captured land from those countries in the process (the same way your Aryan brothers in Germany lost land by the way).

But, I don't know why I waste my time on you. Go back to goose stepping and burning Israeli flags. Or do us all a favor and join your comrades in arms and blow up yourself to kill innocent civilians, since it seems like a real productive way to gain sovereignty.

Take a look at the wiki entry for Palestine, and explain to me what part of the area's history definitively proves that the Arab Muslims living in the area have a superior right to the land.
