Soon, we'll all be winners...

Could it be that the great Derek Jeter contract negotiating saga of 2010 is almost at its end? According to reports, Jeter and the Yankees have agreed on a three-year deal worth between $15 million and $17 million a season.

The deal will also include a "tricky" option for a fourth year, linked to what happens across the three guaranteed years. Overall, the deal will be worth between $45-51 million; the terms of the fourth year will also determine the final salaries for the first three years. The deal won't become official until Jeter takes a physical. After the Jeter deal is completed, the Yankees can turn their attention fully toward pursuing ace Cliff Lee, and perhaps outfielder Carl Crawford. But we're just looking forward to closing the book on this near-disaster; content knowing that Mom and Dad were able to work it out.

I got the opportunity to hang out with Jeter and his entourage one night four years ago. Mostly his entourage. The girl I was seeing at the time was good friends with one of his best friends girlfriend. He was actually funny and down to earth and did not drink that much that night. I was hammered and some of us ended up taking E. Wild night. One of those you will always remember. Or kind of remember.

Like Jeter was ever going to another team to begin with.

Troy Tulowitzki (like Jeter, a shortstop) earlier this week signed a new ten-year deal with the Rockies, for $157.5 million. That is, $15.75 million annual average value.

That means Jeter's deal will guarantee him an AAV higher than that, so will total at the least over $47.25 million for the three base years.
