No Drinking on LIRR Tonight

112410mtatday.jpg Of the many great pleasures included with the purchase of your fancy Long Island Railroad ticket, one of the most sublime is the freedom to consume alcoholic beverages on the ride out to Strong Island. But that freedom is snuffed out today by the MTA, which has quietly announced that no open alcoholic beverage containers will be permitted during your Thanksgiving commute tonight. Apparently, the MTA thinks you've had enough and you're cut off until 5 a.m. tomorrow. And if you think you can get around this by pounding Jäger shots on the platform, think again.

The MTA says the ban includes stations and platforms. The prohibition goes into effect at 8 p.m. tonight. But there is something to be thankful for here: The MTA says there will be 10 extra trains departing Penn Station between 2:10 p.m. and 4:06 p.m for customers leaving work early for the holiday. And you can get as ripped as you want on those trains!

If it doesn't start until 8, it's got nothing to do with commuters, most of whom will be long gone.

This is to prevent people from getting shitfaced on their way into the city to bar crawl tonight.

Good luck regulating that. Does that apply to the long island d-bags coming to NYC?

Yet Metro-North is fine to drink?
