Brooklyn Heights Cinema Owner Charged With Fraud

112410cinema.jpg We've been known to complain about the lack of movie theaters around Brooklyn, but maybe this is why we can't have nice things: the owner of the Brooklyn Heights Cinema was arrested yesterday and charged with perpetrating a massive fraud scheme on investors of his movie house. Norman Adie allegedly pocketed $530,000 of three investors money which he said would go toward turning the two-screen movie house into condos, promising the investors returns as high as 13.5 percent. Instead, Adie used the money on personal expenses and other projects he was working on. On the plus side, BK Heights Cinema is still running strong, and will be showing Black Swan and True Grit in the near future!

That's one of my favorite theaters in the city - really comfortable, decent movies, and with lots of personality. I hope they can survive this.
