The Big Apple Tweed Fall Bike Ride In Brooklyn!

Did you see a flash of tweed while walking around Brooklyn yesterday? Well don't worry, it wasn't deja vu from last night at The Trendy Anachronistic Speakeasy: it was the second annual Big Apple Tweed Fall Ride, a day to appreciate biking and fashion, in a 19th century sort of way. The ride began at the Grand Army Plaza entrance of Prospect Park, made a stop in Boerum Hill and ended in Park Slope. Riders donned different elegant tweed designs, a la old English cycling attire, along with bowler hats, pipes and other accessories. Take a look at some of the posh clothes of yesterday's participants.

I attended this ride yesterday and it was a really fun day. Why are people so bothered by this?

BTW - this was a CHARITY event for Virginia's House of Hope.

Why are so many people bothered by this? I think it looks like fun

i dont like spoiling other people's fun, but i dont get the point of this. im honestly hoping for an explanation. i generally quick to defend in all the improv everywhere/bike flame-baiting stories...but for some reason this thing just rubs me the wrong way.

its even more annoying for some reason that almost no one is wearing a helmet

A friend of a friend who's into historical reenactments was planning on doing this ride. I think people do these things for the same reasons they might participate in Halloween or the Mermaid Parade.

    Oh, God.

People that have something in common are dressing up in something beyond skinny jeans and wifebeaters and doing something fun. How terrible. The horror!

  • Guest

The horror is the tweed or corduroy. There's nothing posh about it. It looks like poor people from the 19th century.

Before the internet, it's just a few people into these things. There's a preppy blog from some new england woman with all her J. crew, filson, ll bean, j. press, chinos, khakis, sperry topsiders, polo sweaters, collar up polos, and all that white privilege stuff. probably leicas, too.

    I. Hate. People. So. Much.

  • bonu$baby

Well at least in the 19th century you won't get car doored to death.

  • Dude69

Why weren't the cops alerted to this? Did they have the permits to gather? Bring back some serious police brutality on this hipster irony, that's anachronism for you!
