After a city bed bug expert announced he had seen bed bugs on benches at subway stations as well as one bed bug "catching a ride on an unsuspecting straphanger's caboose at Brooklyn's Hoyt-Schermerhorn station," we suggested wearing disposable jumpers during your commutes. Well, keep that in mind while you watch this video, which is described on YouTube this way: "On my way to work (11/16/2010) a lady across the aisle had a look of horror upon her face. I looked at her and she said 'the bed bug'. Sure enough there it was. It was brown from being filled up with some poor commuters blood. We had just passed the 36th st in Brooklyn when the lady discovered it."
Of course, this is only bed bug-diagnosis by lay New Yorker—if you need stomach-turning video of definite bed bugs for comparison, watch this. [Via Runnin' Scared]

Bed bugs and other parasites are part of the natural state of homonids. It's been so from our beginning. We had a 6 decade break from them because of powerful organophosphate insecticides that were routinely used in structural pest control to keep other pests down. Since that time we have, as a society have come to eschew chemicals and have opted for more natural means of controlling pests. As a consequence we are returning to our natural, parasite infested state. It's an inevitable result of our choices. Enjoy the new, green way of life.

This is f*cking disgusting. And not in the 'Ewww, bugs!' way.
More in the 'I'm a professional in NYC and am riding to work in filth, surrounded by vermin' way.
Thankfully, the DOH is on the situation and are planning - wait, what about salt in canned soup?

The subway is FILTHY. yes. However, the presence of bed bugs does not necessarily indicate that somewhere is filthy. It only indicated that someone who had a bedbug on them transferred it to that location.
