Amare Stoudemire On How The Knicks Suck

Amare Stoudemire may have signed with the Knicks over the summer, but his real welcome to New York was last night, when the crowd at Madison Square Garden booed him as the Knicks' lost for a fifth time in a row. And reporters found the nearly $100 million man "visibly dejected" as he tried to make sense of how terrible his new team is, "I’m not sure if it’s the fact maybe a winning mentality has never been here." In other words, "I left Steve Nash for this?"

Stoudemire added, "I’m not used to that. We don’t have that sense of urgency. It’s almost as if it doesn’t matter. That’s something I’m not used to. I try to instill the fact that we have to play with sense of urgency. It’s not like we won four games in a row, we lost four games in a row. We just still are not having the sense of urgency. We’re not showing that we really want it...We just can't have guys complacent and comfortable with losing...I can't stand that. It's more attitude. It's more heart. We have to show more heart and go after it."

He also said, "It's definitely something that I'm not accustomed to. It's not fun... We're a young team and we make mistakes but we can't keep doing the exact same thing every night. We just gotta find a way to grow up."

  • Angelheaded Hipster

its such a sports cliche, the "winning mentality" but thats what the oakley/mason/ewing knicks had, they really did. and a 'fuck you' mentality as well

"Go ahead and drive the lane...I'll just clothesline your ass into next week"

I miss the early/mid 90s Knicks so much.

Tough shit Amare-you could have stayed in Phoenix if you weren't chasing the money offered by the shitty Knicks. It's not like they haven't sucked for the past 9 years...

  • JMH

Maybe the Knicks suck because they're paying Stoudemire 50% more than David Lee is making for less production.

  • wac0202

Yeah, that doesn't make sense at all, you have no clue what you're talking about. The effed up thing was to get amare and then get felton, who can't run pick and roll to save his life.

  • poopmast

Have you watched a single game? Amare plays pretty decent defense and challenges shots, something David Lee never did.

  • jibbly

Yup, I liked Lee, but Stoudemire is an obviously superior player. Too bad for Amare that he thought his talents could bring the franchise to even a mediocre level.

  • boscoep

Don't worry Amare, Isiah will be here soon to save the day.

    haha!
