Want to See a Photo of an NYPD SUV Flipped on Its Side?

Sheepshead Bites nabbed this gnarly photo this morning of an NYPD SUV flipped over on its side on the sidewalk. "A neighbor described the scene as 'horrible' after witnessing the police officers loaded into ambulances, and said both officers looked like they were in bad condition," writes Bites. "The westbound Belt Parkway was temporarily shut down to aid in their transport to the hospital...The incident occurred around 8:45 a.m. when the civilian car ran a stop sign and clipped the police vehicle, according to a neighbor." But it turns out that nobody was seriously injured, so you don't have to feel bad about enjoying the photo.

An NYPD housing bureau sergeant and another cop were in the SUV when they were T-boned by a silver Pontiac Bonneville. The officers were trapped inside the vehicle for a half hour before the FDNY could get them out. "I ran over and tried but you couldn't open the door to get them out," Greta Miller, an NYPD crossing guard, tells the Post. Both cops were treated for minor injuries, while the Pontiac driver was issued a summonses for failure to yield. And for the rubbernecking completist, WPIX has raw video from a helicopter!

At least that's one less Bonneville on the road.

"...when the civilian car ran a stop sign and clipped the police vehicle"

There is clearly a traffic light at that intersection.

  • " But it turns out that nobody was seriously injured, so you don't have to feel bad about enjoying the photo."

Can't wait till it happens to you, Del Signore.

Hey, getting mugged? CALL AN OBAM_LOVING CRIMINAL, YOU COP-HATING PISSANT.

Ticket the SUV for parking on sidewalk.

Yesterday morning? That was this morning. I also received a set of photos from a friend who was there and called me from the scene.

Only if you're a bad driver

It got T-boned by a Pontiac Bonneville (a mid-sized sedan) and tipped over. I'd say THAT sucks.

They shut the Belt Parkway to aid in the transport of two minorly injured officers? Was that really necessary?

  • jaycjay

On the Belt Parkway? Yes, it probably was necessary to do what they did, shut down traffic in the direction of the lanes near the disabled vehicle. They were trapped inside, and it took 30 minutes to get them out. On most of the Belt, there is no shoulder so anyone working to extricate them would have be in a traffic lane. And of course, the extent of injuries can't be fully determined until they are out of the vehicle.

Don't worry, if you're ever trapped in a car after an accident on the Belt Parkway the rest of us will be inconvenienced while you're rescued too.

You dummy. This took place on Nostrand and Voorhies. Look at the picture -- does that look like the Belt Parkway to you?

  • JenChungsBaby

BTW, there's not even an entrance to the Belt Pkwy nearby as it's elevated at that location. You can shoot straight down Voorhies from there to Coney Island Hospital in less than 5 minutes.

  • Politburo

The accident wasn't on the Parkway.

  • Xwendekar

    This is why SUVs suck.
