Trans-Hudson Tunnel Project To Rise From The Dead?

110810arc.jpg A few weeks ago, NJ Governor Chris Christie cancelled plans to build a second NJ Transit tunnel between New Jersey and New York, seemingly for good. Well, not if Amtrak has anything to say about it. Amtrak Vice President Al Engel says they're talking to NJ Transit about teaming up and finishing the tunnel themselves, and using it for a high-speed rail. However, they stress there is nothing set in stone, so there's still plenty of time for the abandoned construction space to get turned into an elite street art collection.

Great idea! Amtrak should call their new high speed line the "Christie Bypass" - with a dedicated Hudson tunnel and no stops in NJ, it'll make it from DC to NY in record time!

Looks like instead of a tunnel that dead-ends 150 feet below Macy's we could have a tunnel that Amtrak uses to go into Grand Central & up the northeast corridor to Boston.

Who could argue with that? Maybe the politicians that owed some favors for the ARC tunnel.

It's weird how people keep bringing up the idea of going to GCT, as if it's some novel thing. Of course it was in the original studies done 15 years ago, as Alternative G.

Big problem, though.. there's a big ol water tunnel in the way, and DEC doesn't want anyone near it. That's part of the reason why the original design came out the way it did.

Amtrak is broke, doubtful it will go through. Secondly, Christie cost jersey and NY like 25,000 jobs. Great job fatso.
