Heads up: this weekend the Tenement Museum is hosting a morning photography event. The museum is usually off-limits to photographers, but Saturday morning they tell us it "will be yours to capture in the beautiful morning light. First join us for doughnuts, cider and a short history of 97 Orchard Street's architecture and inhabitants. Then explore the building's many apartments, stairwells, nooks and crannies." And there's a lot of nooks and crannies... and creepy dolls. Get more details about Saturday's event here. If you go, send us your photos (and bring us some apple cider and donuts back, please).

Unless Jacob Riis makes a cameo, what's the point? To see squalor in color?

  • chlyn

It's not squalor. You should take a trip over there.

I wish I could go, not to make photographs, but to be allowed to see the entire building. When you take a tour, you only see one apartment, and you can't look around the hallways.

I was thinking about heading to the museum saturday morning so I could take my own photos, and I'm far from a hipster. I remember going there on a field trip at some point during my school career over 15 years ago.

One of the best places I've visited in New York

Nice generalization boneranger. So this makes me automatically a "hipster" on Saturday morning because I love NYC History and want the chance to share it with other people via photographs?

Oh wait...I'm not using a Holga, I actually have a professional camera. Heh.

That's what i was sayin' Jake-Ace... don't pretend what I said isn't true. I also said I'd be there so I was being slightly self deprecating. How emo of you guys!

  • theboneranger

so every hipster and their ma is gonna show up and take thousands of the same photo and call themselves geniuses... see you there!

  • Cannibal

uh, except that it is from 9:30 am to 10:30 am Saturday morning. They are still up from doing coke the night before

  • dr zippy

That may be true but at least they are engaging with life in the city rather than unnecessarily criticizing others for doing things they enjoy.

  • tmz is evil

Opportunistically seizing a unique event in order to score "cool points" on Flickr is not "engaging in life in the city."

  • dr zippy

That's assigning a lot of motivation to people you most likely do not know. I would imagine lots of NYC history nerds would be first in line for this opportunity.

Plus, I've never heard of anyone trying to earn Flickr "cool points".
