"Streaks of blood marked Rockaway Parkway" in Canarsie this morning, where a 13-year-old girl was killed while trying to cross the four-lane road in the middle of the block, the Daily News reports. The unidentified teen was hit by a BMW at 7:50 a.m. while on her way to Canarsie High School. After running over the teen, the BMW, driven by an unidentified man in his 40s, crashed into several parked cars. "There was a large explosion and the girl was on the road," one witness said. "She was lying flat, head down."

The driver stayed at the scene until he was taken to Brookdale for trauma treatment, according to Streetsblog. Police say no criminality is suspected in the accident. "You always see kids cross the street where they have no business," Rita Bembridge, whose Nissan was struck by the BMW, tells the Daily News. "That's irrelevant. I feel bad for the parents."

Or people just stand in the street waiting to cross in the middle of rush hour, with no care for anyone but themselves.

Easy solution for this problem. Look both ways before crossing the street.

I can't tell you how many time a day I see grown men and women with their headphones in or talking on the phone....just walk into the middle of the street. Completely oblivious of anything else.

LOOK BOTH WAYS BEFORE YOU CROSS THE FUCKING STREET AND THIS WON'T BE A PROBLEM.

How about showing some compassion instead of trying to turn this into some teachable moment or life lesson, you sick fuck? If it was your daughter who was killed and some shit bird said to you "well she probably should have looked both ways," you would be likely to kill said person.

  • Yahtzee

But medic it obviously is a teachable moment...LOOK BOTH WAYS!

How about learning something from someone's stupidity, so you're not the next dead person. Asshat.

Agree. A lot of kids / adults cross the streets without a care. They don't realize its tough for drivers to see them sometimes.

  • hsilman

Uhh yeah they probably would say...

  • Hischick08

Why do we need to know it was a BMW? It was not a hit and run. If it was a Chevy or a Geo, would they say?

  • MEDICNYC

Yes. They would. I'm not really sure what point you are trying to make.
