The G Train Conductor Does Care About You

We all know the G Train certainly has its fair share of service issues every weekend, and almost definitely does not care about you. But that doesn't mean that its conductors aren't trying to do their part to make your late night schlep home a bit more enjoyable. Which would explain this conductor's movie-commercial-voiceover vocal magic that one straphanger caught on video at the Bergen street stop last night. We'd take this over that abrasive robot lady any day.

There used to be an awesome guy on the A train during the morning rush. He had a high goofy voice, but he would actually call out all transfers at each stop, including the 'PATH train for Neeeoouugh Jerrrrsey.' During the holidays he would occasionally sing holiday jingles over the intercom. People probably got annoyed, but I thought his cheerful attitude was awesome. Made my mornings.

Oh I miss this train conductor's humorous voice.

Would anyone mind transcribing it for the hearing-impaired people around here such as myself? It would be appreciated, thanks. :)

There's really not much to transcribe, it's a basic station announcement: "Station is Bergen Street, transfer to the F. G to Church Avenue, Carroll Street is next! Stand clear of the closing doors."

Actually I can't figure out what the first word, where I put "station" really is. Maybe someone else can pick it out.

Anyway, it's not what he says but the way he says it that's interesting, in an energetic voice that sounds a bit like that of a professional announcer.

Oh, suddenly pretty obvious on another listen: "This is Bergen Street," not "Station is...".

I used to take the train from Suffern to Hoboken all the time. One time, on a Saturday, the loudspeakers played the entire Looney Tunes theme and Yosemite Sam saying "YEEHAW!" as we pulled into the last stop. That was one time, and I never heard it again. Weird.

A few years ago I was a subway conductor and whenever I worked the G line I made sure to hold the doors for anyone running down the platform since the trains were so short and the service so infrequent. Good to see someone still enjoying their job.

Wish all mta workers were like that. Then maybe I wouldn't care so much about the fare hike.

I love that guy. There used to be a guy on the A train who sounded like Slick Rick.
