Yanks Close To Re-Signing Girardi

102710girardi.jpg As was expected, the Yankees and manager Joe Girardi are close to agreeing on a three-year deal to keep Girardi in pinstripes, according to the Post. The new contract will pay something in the $9-10 million range, an increase from his previous three-year $7.5 million salary. The raise will make Girardi one of the top ten highest paid managers in the league, and allow the Yankees to begin concentrating on the rest of their off-season plans, including re-signing veterans like Derek Jeter and Andy Pettitte, and pursuing free agents such as Rangers ace Cliff Lee. After the deal is finalized, we expect the number of World Series titles and crash victims aided by Girardi to increase exponentially.

It will be interesting to see what the Yankees do with Jeter. His skill level fell noticeably this past season and he's only going to be marginally productive next year. How much do they pay a .250 hitter?

  • ANGRYGOD11

    All true.

But, he is still the team captain and all-time Yankee leader in hits (and still on his way to 3,000 and The Hall Of Fame). The Yankees and Jeter need each other, so I'm sure he is not going to downscale his life too much.

    Let's go giants!

I hope he finds something to screw up with over-managment between now and April.

Yeah, he's really screwed this up. Two years managing the team, and all he has to show for it is a World Series win and an appearance in the LCS. How could any baseball fan anywhere be satisfied with this mediocrity?

  • whitecastlerock

As he manages a team with the highest payroll in the world and a solid gm, people could find fault with the performance this year. Not many managers have upper management that will sign anyone they might need to make the team a winner. The Yankee bench is as good if not better than most teams in the league. Skeletor should feel some heat for not winning-but I could care less considering the pathetic team in Queens I cheer on belongs in Single A ball

  • jaycjay

Heh. Has to be the Giants. Keep Cliff Lee hungry!

  • Elwood Blues

Hmm. I wonder who Girardi's rootin' for in the Series?
