Anonymous Donor Drops $10K in 9/11 Memorial Donation Box

102110memorial.jpg A day after Joe Daniels, the president of the National September 11 Memorial & Museum, announced that an admission fee would likely be charged, an anonymous donor slid $10,000 in cash into the donation box at the World Trade Center memorial site preview center. That's like 500 tickets to the 9/11 museum right there! "I was home watching the Yankee game when I got a call from the preview center's manager. She asked me if I was sitting down," Daniels tells the Post. "We just found $10,000 in the donation box."

The unknown angel left the donation in the form of 99 hundred dollar bills and five twenties. $370 million in donations from corporations and individuals have been collected so far, but this is by far the largest cash donation. And whoever left it didn't even get a receipt so he or she could get make a tax deduction! Officials tell the Post that they believe the donation was made sometime between 5 p.m., when the box was last checked, and 7 p.m. when the preview site closed. They've checked surveillance tapes to see if they can spot the benefactor, and Daniels says, We'd love to know who it was so we can say thank you."

I think that $10,000 money that found in donation box is good to help the foundation and I guess there are still several people willing to donate for charity. Aside from that there are few people want to donate money rather than relief.

ill donate 10K if they include a display showing how 3 buildings defied the laws of pyshics

What a waste of money - they've already raised millions for an ugly memorial that is going to charge admission for entry.

museum is considering a fee, not the memorial.

read: police/fed/irs want to track this person down and find out where the money came from.

    You're welcome.

  • If someone went to the trouble of making an anonymous cash donation w/o even getting a receipt for a tax deduction, he or she probably doesn't want you checking surveillance tapes so your organization can take one or two more spins in the news cycle. Show a little goddamn gratitude.

I bet you another $10k they release the photo to the media and ask for people to ID him/her so they can hit 'em up for more money.

Yeah, really. That's the whole POINT of anonymous donation. Take it and be thankful.
