Rangers 8, Yankees 0: The Rangers scored all they would need in the 1st inning with Josh Hamilton's two-run homer off Andy Pettitte. And that's all they would get until the top of the 9th inning when they added six insurance runs. Cliff Lee, who was thisclose to joining the Yankees in July, silenced the Yankees bats, allowing only two hits, striking out thirteen and allowing just one walk. The 1-6 hitters of the Yankees were 0-20 on the night. The first inning home run spoiled an otherwise excellent start by Pettitte.

The two teams play again tomorrow night with Tommy Hunter pitching for the Rangers and A.J. Burnett scheduled to pitch for the Yankees.

Islanders 2, Maple Leafs 1 (OT): Just three and a half minutes into overtime, John Tavares scored the game-winning goal on a power play. Tavares also had an assist in the win.

Avalanche 3, Rangers 1: Chris Stewart scored two power play goals to lead Colorado past the Rangers. While the Avs took advantage of the power play, the Rangers were unable to score on their five opportunities.

How long before Yankee fans are angrily saying, "27 World Championships...blah-blah-blah".

  • "six insurance runs"

That wasn't David Robertson on the mound. That was actor Dean Winters as Mayhem from the Allstate Insurance ads.
