Kids May Actually Like Healthy Vending Machine Choices

vending1010.jpg Last year school bake sales were out, and new healthy alternatives were brought in via vending machines. While there's a battle to actually give schools a cut of the proceeds going on in the background, the NY Post reports on the #1 selling items—like Sensible Foods roasted edamame, cinnamon pita chips and Kashi's Cherry Dark Chocolate granola bar. At the top of the list: a fresh pineapple spear on a push-up stick. Over 700 vending machines are now in place at middle and high schools around the city, selling only low-fat, low-sodium, whole grain snacks. Of course, after the bell rings they go home and eat spaghetti tacos.

It's true that healthy appeals to kids as long as they can find it. We cover central North Carolina and we are seeing a lot of growth for our healthy vending service.

One of the great lies parents (with some help from the media) continue to perpetuate on each other is that kids will refuse to eat healthy foods. My kid will almost always choose fruit over candy as a treat, and will happily eat almost every vegetable served to her. She's hardly unique. But, y'know, if the truth came out Jerry Seinfeld's wife wouldn't be able to sell cookbooks on how to sneak vegetables into Happy Meals.
