PETA Plans Protest At First Lady's Fundraiser

dknyrabbitpeta.jpg This coming Monday, fashion designer Donna Karan is hosting a fundraiser with First Lady Michelle Obama (followed by a concert at the St. James Theatre), and according to the NY Post, "Karan's personal chef is cooking for expected guests at her Greenwich Village home, including Tory Burch, Harvey Weinstein, Sarah Jessica Parker and Michael Kors." Who wasn't invited, however? PETA! But they have no problem crashing.

This morning a spokeswoman for the organization told us that they'll be hosting their very first fur protest of the season outside of Karan's house that night. She added, "The Greenwich Village protest will feature many animal-loving children and parents holding stuffed bunnies as well as protest signs taking Donna Karan to task for using rabbit fur in her winter clothing line." PETA VP Dan Matthews says, "We think Donna Karan should take a fashion tip from the first lady, who has officially announced that she is fur-free.

The last time Karan promised to take fur out of her fashions, she added it right back in again! So this could get ugly.

Calling someone a 'motherfucker' just proves my point.

A hater of humans. No understanding of people's right to disagree with you without cursing and swearing at them.

Keep it up. You prove my argument constantly.

I really feel so sorry for you. How was your childhood? Abused? Beaten? Abandoned?

I'm really curious how you became so warped.

I'm really in a bind here because although I'm an animal lover, I can't stand PETA and their stupid protests.

I guess I'm glad they help get the word out and bring attention to these problems but their tactics are really tasteless.

  • bingeandpurr

Uh hullo? PETA is an animal welfare organization.

And PETA peeps would are probably more likely to help homeless people because they are actully doing something to help! Duh!

Speciesism - Look it up virgil and thefacts.

  • TheFact continues to use the same stupid argument even after I explain several times to him that loving animals and having compassion for animals doesn't mean that you don't have any compassion for humans. he is obtuse. for him it is animals vs humans so we must always take humans side even when they are WRONG AND CRUEL. theFACT is a dumbass

  • thefacts

Your very comments not only here today but throughout your presence on this blog clearly prove my point of your contempt and disdain for humans.

Calling your fellow man "dumbass""obtuse" "fucking idiot" shows that you have no respect for your fellow kind.

No wonder the bouncers beat the pulp out of you when you tried that nonsense with them in person. You do it here, because you can get away with it.

You hate humans because you hate yourself. Go to a psychiatrist, my friend. You need serious help.

  • no, you are the problem why society sucks and makes it hard for decent beings. you are one sick motherfucker who continues to post that people who have compassion for animals means they hate humans. i hope you end up stuck in an elevator with an animal abuser. Maybe then you wake up.

PETA peeps are not more likely to help the homeless unless those homeless have a pet. They do not care about humans whatsoever. It is evident in their careless exploitation of nearly nude to nude women to promote their twisted agenda and in their defense of animals and insects known to cause disease and sickness in humans. If PETA had been around during the bubonic plague, and succeeded in their stupidity, we would not be here debating this right now; the entire human race would have been wiped out to save rats.

  • thefacts

    peeps?

    Peeps?

This is what you call people, peeps?

    Humanism, look it up.

  • Go get 'em, PETA! Someone has to look after the animals - otherwise they have no voice. And if DKNY reneged on her vow to stop contributing directly to the death of animals for decoration, there should be some noise.

I'm not a big animal rights buff, but I like how much reporting there's been lately on protest groups. Good work, Gothamist/Jen!

"Go get 'em, PETA! Someone has to look after the animals - otherwise they have no voice."

That's the biggest pile of horseshit ever heaped onto the human conciousness. We would not have dogs and cats as tamed, docile animals if we did not care about animals. We would not have horses helping us do things such as plowing farms or hauling Amish around. PETA's only true agenda is the promotion of PETA. They care little about animals and even less about humans.

  • you are a fucking idiot. seriously, handsome devil is right about you. First they don't have a voice and we are exploiting animals. Just leave them alone. stop abusing them. Animals are trapped, anally electocuted and skinned alive for their fur.

  • Guest

You are sad and pathetic. Please give back to the Earth and stop breathing oxygen.

  • virgilstarkwell

i wonder how many homeless people these PETA folks with pass on their way to donna karan's house.

  • I wonder how many homeless people who have been feed with all the money used on fur coats instead???

  • thefacts

    Good point.

Do you think they give a damn about human beings?

So many PETAphiles actually disdain humans, perversely transferring any sympathy from their own species to another.

    They are basically self-hating humans.

  • Dogsbody

It's actually a pretty dumb point.

Firstly, you can be both a PETA member AND try to help the homeless, they're not mutually exclusive.

Secondly, you could apply the same argument to ANY cause. Are people supposed to wait until the issue of homelessness is completely resolved before they move on to campaign about any other issues?

(p.s. before you jump to any conclusions, I'm not a PETA member. I eat meat, wear leather etc)

  • thefacts

"you can be both a PETA member AND try to help the homeless, "

You can, but you don't, do you?

Ever volunteered at a homeless shelter?

So, you are even more pathetic than PETAphiles. You help neither animals or humans.

  • Dogsbody

Uh, I try to be nice and not patronize people, but seriously...

I've already made it clear that I am NOT a PETA member. Therefore, it is irrelevant whether or not I help out at soup kitchens, donate to homeless charities, etc etc.

Whether I do or do not help the homeless, does not change the fact that people can be BOTH members of PETA and try to help the homeless too.
