Fox Hosts: All Terrorists Are Muslims Who, Typically, "Killed Us On 9/11"

In the past 24 hours, two Fox News hosts revealed what they really think about Muslims, shocking no one. Appearing on The View yesterday, Bill O'Reilly prompted Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar to walk off the show in disgust after he declared, "Muslims killed us on 9/11." Then on Fox & Friends this morning, co-host Brian Kilmeade said, "Not all Muslims are terrorists, all terrorists are Muslim." Here's video of the O'Reilly appearance, via MediaMatters:

O'Reilly's point was that the Islamic community center and mosque shouldn't be built two blocks away from the World Trade Center site because "Muslims killed us on 9/11." (It's unclear what he thinks about Catholic churches being built near schools.) Goldberg and Behar found his comment offensive, and stormed off, only to reemerge after O'Reilly qualified his statement to include "extremist Muslims." Behar later told PopEater, "Really, is anyone talking about it? He's an idiot. I just couldn't sit there any longer and listen to him."

This morning, Kilmeade's joined in on the xenophobiapalooza in his own dunder-headed way. Salon points out that his statement "is both inaccurate and prejudiced, in a way that's more clear-cut than [Rick] Sanchez's semi-coherent rant. But it's been instructive to watch how Kilmeade's comments haven't created much of a stir at all. Maybe it's because this sort of thing is expected from Fox. Or maybe it's because you can say a lot of bad stuff about Muslims with impunity." See, Fox would never get away with this if Muslims ran the media!

There he is... If A then B, A, therefore B... Oh I get the awesome, side-splitting formal fallacy, hence my laughing. It was so "hilarious" that I couldn't contain myself (see above.) The argument has zilch to do with underlying prejudice, and more to do with facts... Grasp that yet? I'd type "LOL" but I realized I'm not a 14 year old tween. ROFL, leet leet... Kthnxbubai.

  • VorneliusCanderbilt

so nice I'll say it twice.

What Bill O'Reilly said is clearly so wrong and to see people here defending it is really disheartening. How can we condemn a religion of almost 2 billion people for the actions of a few?

  • nik13

Hmmm...because they have a well-documented pattern of killing people in name of their religion? It's still 7th century for them.

  • moonbeam

Who are the "them" that you're talking about? Are you still trying to lump all 2 billion Muslims together and insist that "they" are all ignorant, backwards and violent? Seriously?

  • robingee

It's easier than trying to think, to meet people, to study and be informed.

  • Kreetoo

"How can we condemn a religion of almost 2 billion people for the actions of a few?"

Wow, I was just going to chime in with something like, "JDS must have blown a nut when he saw this story! It's right up his lambasting-everyone-who-doesn't-cower-to-the-politically-correct-movement-of-the-day theme!"

But really? Let's not even talk about 9/11 or Joy Behar or Bill O'Reilly. If you want to talk about condemning a religion why don't you start with the way they treat women. Or how about the way homosexuals are stoned to death in public. And these aren't "extremist" sects of their religion, these are the basic tenets. So next week when you go march in favor of gay marriage and then come home and write about how we're unfairly condemning Islam... I think maybe you need to sit down and realize that you're an absolute moron who's only interested in causes, because you clearly don't comprehend the actual facts of either side.

It's not about Political Correctness, pumpkin. As much as people like you would like to bleat that over and over again. Do you think that Democrats/Progressives/Liberals have such a fear of looking racist that they ignore danger and threats? What sense would that make? Or does it make more sense that Repubs/conservatives/Teabaggers are scared of everyone that is not their religion or their color, and they prefer to lump everyone in one bowl instead of taking the time to learn the difference bewteen Brown People That Want To Hurt You and Brown People That Just Want To Live Their Lives?

  • John L

So what's your solution? To change their beliefs? Or to wipe out ever muslim?

There's a lot of injustices in the world do you want to go and fight for all of them?

What they do in their countries is really none of my business. I really couldn't give a fuck what happens 5,000 miles away. I'm an American and I worry about what happens in a America or what threatens America.

We are involved in a war on terrorism, not a crusade against muslims.

Let's focus on the terrorists because frankly we don't have the manpower or money to fight 2 billion people from all over the world.

  • Jamie McDonald

5,000 miles away? There are (an estimated) 7 million Muslims in America.

  • robingee

But the Muslims here are not living the same way they are in Pakistan. Within their own community they may follow rules similar to a Muslim country, but it's not the same. They come here because it is not a theocracy. If it were, why come here?

  • Jamie McDonald

Really? Come to my neighborhood (Kensington, Brooklyn) and see for yourself whether they live like they're still in Pakistan (or Bangladesh, as the case may be) or not.

  • robingee

Yeah I have a friend in Boreum Hill, right next to a mosque and also I worked in an art studio where I had to go into the dergah to use the restroom every day. In the city there are burqas, in the suburbs there are not. The Muslim women I know are very smart, well-read and witty. They don't get murdered for going against a man's wishes.

  • Jamie McDonald

Next time you're hanging out with your smart, witty and well-read Muslim female friends, ask them how they feel about, oh, say, verse 4:34 of the Koran:

"Men are the maintainers of women because Allah has made some of them to excel others and because they spend out of their property; the good women are therefore obedient, guarding the unseen as Allah has guarded; and (as to) those on whose part you fear desertion, admonish them, and leave them alone in the sleeping-places and beat them; then if they obey you, do not seek a way against them; surely Allah is High, Great."

  • robingee

So? All religions say that. Except Wicca. Men are always the boss. Some people go for that bunk, some don't. That is why I find religion useless and outdated.

  • I oppose religion, but support freedom of religion. In large part because making thoughtcrime a thing opens a whole can of worms. There is a big difference between supporting the rights of Muslims & supporting the religion. It is odd that commenters on Gothamist can't seem to get that. I don't think anyone should believe in invisible pink unicorns-- it is silly. That being said, a lot of the silliness is a moot point, because it never gets past race. "Muslim" has become the new "Jew." If your name has an "al-" in it in or too many "ch" sounds-- if your skin is the wrong colour, your nose the wrong shape-- you are screwed. Doesn't matter if you are an atheist engineer who is the Muslim equivalent of the guy who goes to church on Christmas & Easter to shut his parents up. You are a terrorist.

Yeah, no kidding, I don't support terrorism, or treating women as property, or teaching that science is pretend, or persecuting other religions. That being said, persecuting other religions on OUR part is the wrong way to go. It doesn't help anybody. In fact, it hurts everyone's cause. If you don't pick on the Muslim kid at school, he'll grow up to be an American kid-- if you keep him from integrating with policies of prejudice & institutionalized racism, THEN where are you?

Islam is made up, but it is just as made up as every other religion. The thing is, they ain't about to carve the 8 Pillars on the walls of the Supreme Court. So yeah, when dudes go hard on Christianity but soft on Islam, you have to realize that the hegemonic religion is a who different kettle of worms than the current scapegoat ethnicity.

  • robingee

I still support the idea of believing in pink unicorns.

  • Streetsmartz

I pay the remotest attention thank you :)

  • NlGGAZ

Why can't you say all pedophile priests are christian? SAME REASONING, YES?

  • nik13

    All pedophile rabbis are Jewish.
