Video: Subway Surfer... Survives

Sometime over the summer this guy decided to try his hand at subway surfing, hopping on the top of a train and during his one-stop journey, declaring,"It's easier than I thought, hehe... last time it was harder."

We're guessing there wasn't a last time, and that he just wanted to seem seasoned—besides, what are the chances of surviving this type of stunt more than once? There have been plenty of subway surfing deaths in the past years: 2003, 2005, 2007. This recent lucky survivor proclaims on his YouTube page that the act takes it "to another level of freedom, New York City is an amusement park."

Pretty stupid stunt but if it furthers his rap career then Que Sera Sera.

And it's not as stupid as walking a tightrope between the WTC towers and they made a movie out of that so what the hell.

Between this guy just being another dumbass, acting tough, and then declaring he's a rapper, I'm surprised that the comments so far aren't harsh.

Next time he should have his friends pull the emergency brake and see if it's so easy.

He should try reading books instead.

outside inside, doesn't matter. A kid in late 2004 was crushed outside off the D-line (was then W train) not too far from the GAP in Bensonhurst. The body and remains fell from the tracks on top of a person's car who also worked at the GAP.

Other than that, It's totally safe.

As long as they don't delay my train or hurt other people, then by all means. As long as they're aware of the risks.

"what are the chances of surviving this type of stunt more than once?"

Pretty good, actually. People have doing it and surviving for decades, perhaps even since the earliest days of the subway. Of course, unless you're with them or part of the culture, you only hear about the ones who die (and now, thanks to the rise of video sharing, a few of the ones who are successful).

But your conclusion that to do it will almost certainly result in death is the result of observation bias, combined with official propaganda.

    That didn't look that challenging.

The danger is reduced by around 90% when you do it outdoors. Do it on the E train from Manhattan to Queens.
