Lower East Side Bar Bans Gaga

GAGAJUKEBOX1010.jpg Lady Gaga, who resided at 176 Stanton Street when she was still working her way up, has been banned from what would have been one of her local bars. The Parkside Lounge, a short 2 minute walk from the Fame Monster's old digs, have posted the following note on their jukebox: "No Lady Gaga! You play, you pay! It will be turned off and your $ will not be returned. THIS IS YOUR WARNING." We wouldn't put it past the performer to show up there, flip off the staff, grab a beer, open it with her teeth, and play her own damn song. All while wearing an orbital headdress. Ehhh I doubt Parkside would be a place she'd hang out at. My dad's been going there for years and the crowd is mostly made up of older folks who have been living in the neighborhood since well before it was cool. That place is like a remnant of what the LES used to be before the hipsters took over. Honestly, I'm not surprised the jukebox has that sign on it, the bartender usually just plays stuff off his ipod anyway. Now I'm all curious, I want to meet my dad there Friday night to see this sign myself.

  • So what's maintenance like on these jukeboxes? Remote login? Blue tooth keyboard? Other?

But the customer is always right.

  • jaycjay

That's just a promotional phrase. No one actually believes it.

  • l3iodeez

The customer is always right until you have his money. Then hes just another douchebag.

I've noticed this on other jukeboxes. Its not that unusual. And this is not that bad a bar. Lady Gaga is not that bad a singer, just overexposed.

  • mocanlagunas

I think it's on their contract with the jukebox that they can't do this... I remember about one weird song, very looooooooonnnnggg one, that if someone played it, they had to let it run until it ended...

  • jaycjay

The jukebox owner doesn't care if you skip a song. That just burns up credits faster, making them more money.

  • jaycjay

And, p.s., if they didn't want you to be able to skip songs, they wouldn't give you a remote control that lets you do it.

Hell Yeah! This is my new favorite bar and I haven't even been there...yet! Well done Parkside Lounge. See you in the very near future.

Digs @ Stanton St? I guess the 'rich princess' rumors weren't too far off.

  • REALITY CHECK

Five years ago, living near Attorney Street was not that expensive.

I've seen notes like this on plenty of these jukeboxes. Not Lady Gaga, but whoever. The last one as I remember said no Stairway to Heaven, no Lynyrd Skynyrd, and one more particular song I can't now remember.

I didn't realize that they were news. I'll take pics and tag them "gothamist" from now on. In fact, that last one was in a bar in Greenpoint... that is, on the G train/B62 bus nexus that makes normal and mundane things fascinating to Gothamist's crew. So I really missed an opportunity there

  • hotstepper

what?! no Skynyrd while drinking? now THAT is just goddamn unAmerican!!

  • Guest

I'd rather have no Skynard than no Gaga.

  • hotstepper

    sissy.

  • Guest

No, just tired of southern rock. I'd rather listen to Black Sabbath all day long than hear one Skynyrd song.

  • JenChungsBaby

It's a Carlson post, so what did you expect? They had to take her off real news duty so now she's handling the flashbacks and handmade signs.

  • jshoopy

This is just regular LES douchery. When Gaga lived there, she was 'alt' and 'cool.' When she moves out and becomes famous, suddenly she becomes the worst thing ever. I agree her music sucks, but lots of people's music sucks.

  • jaycjay

That's a decent general dismissive rant, but doesn't apply in this case because when she lived there wasn't "Gaga", she wasn't "alt" and "cool", and in fact no one knew who she was.
