Geese Go After Megabus This Time

101010geese.jpg Are the country's geese now heading to our roads to possibly intimidate us humans against our anti-geese measures? A Megabus headed up the New Jersey Turnpike to New York had to make an emergency stop after a flock crashed into the bus' windshield, sending glass flying into the driver's eyes.

Driver Andre Sweeney sustained minor injuries, but managed to control the bus until he could stop at a rest stop about two miles away. No passengers were injured. The city has recently announced goose "kill zones" after flocks struck U.S. Airways Flight 1549 and a Boeing 777 carrying a Post reporter. In July, about 400 geese were euthanized in Prospect Park.

Actually, the geese were probably being shot at and were seeking escape in a panic. Forgot that it is "open season" on the geese now insofar as "expanded hunting" in New York and many other states.

My friend's brother was on that bus. He showed me pictures and the entire front windshield was shattered. Driver got glass in his eye.

In response to Kanger: The geese were probably be chased by dogs or harassed from some location. Unusual for them to be flying that low. Under normal circumstances geese are well organized in flight and very wary of poetential dangers. Something had to be spooking them to cause such diviation from normal patterns. Sad that it results in this near-tragedy and still more vilification of the geese.

No safe sanctuary anywhere for geese and other wildlife. It is fortunate that this was not a worse scenario but this made me think of the situation with deer venturing out onto roads. Wildlife is being painted in a corner and there will continue to be more instances of human-animal conflict until we get a grasp on the fact that we need to create space for beings other than ourselves.

Birds will not stop flying. The geese have gotten such a bad rap lately......how about we let up on it and give them a break.

    Suicide geese, no doubt.

Reaction to the bullying, harassing and shooting of these birds across our lands.

No safe sanctuary for Canada geese. Even our public parks have constructed "undisclosed" avian gas chambers somewhere in Brooklyn where thousands of the geese have been sent and killed over the past few years.

What is left for the geese to do other than hurl themselves into windshields and airline engines in vain attempt to escape their tormenters?

    Suicide geese, no doubt.

These are fundamentalist terrorist geese sent over to attack us. Flaunting our secure entry systems, they surreptitiously cross our borders to wage attacks on 'soft targets' such as commercial airliners and now our buses.

The NSA has picked up chatter, or more accurately, 'quacking' that hints at possible spectacular coordinated attacks on our infrastructure, possibly in the form of a v-shaped flying formation crashing into a skyscraper or government building.

As many as are killed by commando teams of wildlife experts, more are recruited in 'training camps' located in wildlife preserves. We need to make things perfectly clear: Those national parks and preserves who harbor these single minded killers will face the full wrath of the United States animal control special forces teams.

This new Axis of Evil parks has quiet streams in place of rugged mountains, lush forests in place of caves and spiderholes, and hatchling breeding grounds in place of IED's.

The Defense department is considering deploying predator drones to surgically strike at their leadership, which luckily, is easy to spot - they always fly at the front. The concern is that there are hundreds of geese ready to take the place of killed or captured leaders.

This, folks, will be the defining battle of the twenty first century.
