Happy 10/10/10! There are a number of superstitions surrounding today's date. In mathematics, 101010 equals 42 in binary, which is the answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe and Everything according to the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. In Chinese culture, 10 is a lucky number. For what it's worth, it's the atomic number of Neon. And all of these reasons combined are sending a massive number of people to the altar.

According to the Daily News, about 33,000 people are registered to marry today on the Wedding Chanel and The Knot websites, about six times as many as average. One couple said, "We're Chinese, and there's a Lunar calendar for lucky days. Ten is a lucky number. 10/10/10 happens to be a very, very good day for getting married." Another Staten Island woman, Alexis Borkowski, said she has been planning to marry today for two years. "I wanted a long engagement so we would have time to save up and plan, not thinking there would be a million other people getting married on that day."
