Yankee Stadium Parking Costs Sky Rocket

10910yanks.jpg Mayor Bloomberg tested the patience of the Jinx Gods yesterday when he mentioned that he had already begun planning the World Series ticker tape parade before the team had even won the ALDS. But fans face an even more irritating prospect: even if they were somehow able to scrum up playoff tickets (costing a couple hundred dollars), they're now going to be facing increased prices for the privilege of parking near the stadium. Increases of nearly seventy-five percent.

Prices at Yankee Stadium garages will increase from $23 to $40 starting with tonight's Game 3 against the Twins. And that amount will likely increase even more if the Yankees do make it to the World Series. "It's absolutely despicable that the average working man who's trying to put food on the table for his family can't treat them to a night of baseball in the Bronx because of the added cost," fan Christopher Berry told the News.

It might be a strategy that loses more money that gains though: during the regular season, the garages had major problems filling the 9,000 spaces. About forty percent of the spaces went empty as parking revenues only reached half of their projections, probably because everyone was taking the train: "Anyone who doesn't take the train to a game these days is crazy. The hassle and now the expanded cost of parking is getting just too much. It's just not worth it," said accountant Alberto Guerra.

Why are they still charging $23 for regular season games if that garages are half empty? Maybe if they lowered the price and made it more reasonable more people would park there.

Also I remember that a huge argument for the new stadium was the fact that Steinbrenner insisted that they needed more parking, so what happened? All those subsidies and they never really needed the parking? So many impact studies, environmental studies, etc. any they were all wrong?

Well I guess the joke's on us.

Heres what most people are forgetting:

#1- If you have a vehicle full of people $23 (reg season) is a bargain compared to 7 people paying rt fares from many stations on MNRR. Parking is also still cheaper for 7 people riding the subway at 4.50 each ($5 next yr).

#2- If you want to tailgate, $23 is still cheaper than food and drinks in or out of yankee stadium.

#3- If you live in some parts of NJ, PA and upstate NY west of the hudson, you have no choice but to drive for night and weekend games.

The Yankees got a very sweet deal from the city. The locals and the taxpayers got boned.

However, remember this stadium and Citifield were planned and built during Wall Street's peak years. Planners expected a lot more money to just pour in.

Does this mean the Yankees will actually repay some of the absurd subsidies we all chipped in for their new stadium and the 1/2 empty garages?

Does it mean they make good on their promises to pay for and build parks to replace the one our city and state gave them?

    Probably not.

They should put a $5 tax on every ticket and every parking space until we get all our money back.

And you don't like the cost of parking but you can afford play-off tickets? Take the train, jerk-offs,

    P.S. Fuck the yankees.

So what? You can get there from almost anywhere using public transit.

"It's absolutely despicable that the average working man who's trying to put food on the table for his family can't treat them to a night of baseball in the Bronx because of the added cost," fan Christopher Berry told the News.

Um, really? So you can afford the insanely overpriced tickets, and the insanely overpriced food, but you can't pay $17 more for parking?

Agreed. Bunch of idiots. If you don't like the prices don't go. If enough people did that they will have no other choice but to the lower the prices. Sports is a business, which many idiot people don't realize.

With Metro-North having a station there there is really no need to drive.
