Update: Paladino's TV Announcement Revealed!

10710paladinolive.jpg Like you, dear readers, we've spent all day glued to our computer screens, waiting and anticipating Carl Paladino's mysterious television news bomb which he promised to drop on us at the end of the work day. Would it live up to his crazier antics, or would it turn out to be another boring campaign stump speech? Well, it turned out to be...(see the video below!)

Sort of typical and disappointing. According to WIVB, Paladino addresses some of the numerous controversies that have overtaken his campaign in the last weeks in the three minute video, including the confrontation with Post reporter Fred Dicker, his love child, and the accusations he made about Andrew Cuomo's infidelities. Paladino says he just wants to move past all the insinuations and innuendo, although as is always his problem, he can't help but throw in a jab that Cuomo's "prowess is legendary." He accuses Cuomo of being afraid of a debate, and spends the last third of the video letting his his newly appointed Campaign Chairwoman Nancy Naples ask for emergency campaign donations.

So essentially, it was similar to every other attempt Paladino's made this week to not sound batshit crazy. Certainly nowhere near as epic as we had hoped. About that debate point: at the same time Paladino is calling out Cuomo for not agreeing to debate, it was announced that all seven candidates for governor have been invited for the first official debate at Hofstra University, on Monday, October 18 at 7:00 p.m. Six of the seven pol's, including Cuomo, Kristin Davis (Anti-Prohibition Party), Charles Barron (Freedom Party), Howie Hawkins (Green Party), Warren Redlich (Libertarian Party), and Jimmy McMillan (Rent is too Damn High Party) have agreed to attend. The only person who hasn't accepted the invitation? Carl Paladino.

Update: Cuomo has released a statement in response to Paladino's video:

Carl Paladino and his handlers can’t con New Yorkers. They have seen the real Carl and they know he is unfit to be Governor with his unstable outbursts, smears, and total lack of substance. New Yorkers don’t need his dysfunctional personality in Albany - Albany is dysfunctional enough. As we all know by now, Carl has a casual relationship with the truth. We have accepted a debate hosted by Newsday featuring all candidates, as requested by Carl, and it is Carl who has thus far declined. Just when you thought he couldn’t get any lower, Carl once again debased himself and the entire political process.

I just don't understand how people are sooo hypersensitive. Cuomo is the definition of insanity -- Doing the same thing over and over again -- he's the same old Pol doing the same old things....I for one have had enough. We need someone who will stand up to the greedy elected officials. Carl Paladino has made some mistakes on the campaign trail....but, Cuomo believes he is entitled to be President.....Governor of New York is just his jumping off point. Do you really think he will make any tough choices. This guy has never made an honest dollar in his adult life. Political job after political job....Carl Paladino on the other hand has redeveloped buildings and made something out of nothing. Heck even the Erie County Democrat Committee rents space from him and for years held their election night gatherings in the lobby of the same building. If he was sooo terrible why was he ok than and now he is no good. Carl Paladino is an honest and decent man that just wants to fix the mess we call NY state....

Paladino speaks his mind. Even if you don't agree with what he says, it's refreshing to hear somebody who isn't reading bland, soothing, weasely, prepared statements all the time.

As for "batshit crazy" that description better applies to the lunatics in Washington who think throwing trillions of dollars we do not have down a bottomless pit and drowning the country in debt for generations to come is a recipe for economic prosperity.

I would replace "refreshing" with "entertaining", much in the way that I find the WWF entertaining. Entertaining candidates make me think of Jesse Ventura and Al Franken, neither of whom would I consider quality politicians.

Of course, the average American prefers style over substance, which is why most of Washington blows. I don't love career politicians, but when one of them has a good track record of actually fighting for what's right like Cuomo, they've got my vote.

Paladino's track record seem to largely consist of crazy rants, threats, racist e-mails, etc. Sure, his unpredictability would be entertaining, but is it what NY needs?

Not a good argument there. If Paladino is batshit crazy, your comment that there are others just like him in Washington doesn't change the fact that he himself is batshit crazy and unfit for governing.

  • yakatori

good lord you are an insufferable twit.

Prowess ahahaha that was the funniest bit. When will these 2 debate or have a fist fight or something? I wanna see that. It's not fair we can't see them together. It's not right I tell you PEOPLE WANT ENTERTAINMENT

  • Mr. Shankly

Screw these guys. I'm voting for Jethro Q. Walrustitty (S).

  • John L

Paladino will say whatever he thinks it takes to win,

They look at the polls weekly and change the tactic accordingly.

People are mad, he acts mad.

People are not liking the tone, he changes the tone.

    It's just a scam, he's a scam artist.
