NIMBYs Rejoice Over LI Strip Club's Closing

2010_09_listrip.jpg Yesterday, a federal judge ruled that a strip club in West Babylon, Long Island had to close, because of a court agreement its owner signed in 2005 promising to close the business by November 2009. (The area was not zoned for "adult entertainment.") Of course, the business didn't want the good times to end and was still operating past the promised closing date. One relieved resident told WCBS 880, “I’m very happy to hear that cause I have a little brother. You used to see condoms and everything on the street."

I don't frequent strip clubs but i don't really see anything wrong with them except that they shouldn't be allowed to have big neon signs with girls half naked and things like that, out front where the kids walk by. They should just make them be more discrete, men know what's inside we don't need a big sign.

And that girl worried about her brother is admirable but TV is much worse than a couple of nasty used condoms.

Nimbys rejoice, while Quimby makes disappointed sounds in a vaguely aristocratic Cape Cod accent.

If your seeing condoms on the street that is more than a strip club, that's a bordello.

It's West Babylon. There'll be condoms on the street long after this place closes.

Is West Babylon part of NYC? No.

So, what is the relevance of this story?

These things happen in NYC and Gothamist rarely covers those stories.

Even Newsday didn't cover this non-story!

Slow news day or sloppy editing?
