Michelin Guide 2011 Names Brooklyn's First 2 Star Restaurant

As we noted earlier, Zagat's thunder-stealing upstaging cannot thwart the power of the new Michelin restaurant guide to NYC, which hits shelves tomorrow. Though more influential abroad, inclusion in the famously rigorous guide is a major feather in any chef's cap. This edition deems 715 restaurants worthy of mention, and out of those just five restaurants earned three stars. Ten restaurants were rated two stars, while 42 restaurants nabbed a single star. Among them is the first Brooklyn restaurant to score the coveted two star status—and it's not even technically a restaurant!

The upscale grocer Brooklyn Fare features an intimate chef's table alongside an open kitchen, where chef César Ramirez has been generating considerable buzz with his four course prix-fixe supper club. Jean-Luc Naret, the Michelin guide's Directeur Général, tells Grub Street, "Brooklyn Fare is one of the top 300 restaurants in the world. We didn’t give two stars because it was Brooklyn — it really deserved to be recognized."

Other newly starred restaurants in this year's guide include the Danny Brown Wine Bar & Kitchen in Forest Hills, Aldea, The Breslin, and Chef Michael White's Marea, which scored two stars. Peruse the full list below, and check out our post from last week featuring the Michelin "Bib Gourmand" list of restaurants serving two courses and a glass of wine or dessert for $40 or less.

    Different animal, different standards.

This list deals with the quality of food first and foremost. Yelp is great but it isn't a list derived with ANY standards. a lot of the posts IMO seem to be either a rave review of a terrible one. Makes me think there is a lot more bias there...

WD-50 got only 1 Michelin? Wylie is probably pissed.

  • JGNY

He probably he is considering he has 3 Times Stars but there are many other 3 Star restaurants on that list with only 1 Michelin Star.

The chefs who are the most pissed are most likely Batali and Meyer considering they have 4 NY Time Stars.

Maybe they didnt get around to Crif Dogs this year.

  • Crapola

I'll stick with Yelp and get great food at a fraction of the price of these restaurants.

Yelp? The only people who comment on that are either employee's of restaurants (look at the highest rated restaurants and explain the logic for them getting 5 stars) or people with a vendetta. Every restaurant on Michelin deserves its place there.

  • angry_pickle

No, it's not. There are too many high ratings on Yelp probably because too many people are more impressed by hype, decor, and alcohol than by food.

Personally I don't trust Zagat at all. And I don't trust Michelin for anything except their French cuisine picks.

lmao. Yelp is the asshole of the internet.

  • youngpro

they went even further down ever since they started that 'filtered review' thing.
