Madonna Surprises LaGuardia Teacher

rayoflightmadonna.jpg With her daughter Lourdes attending LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, it was only a matter of time before mama Madonna turned up in the halls. One teacher there allegedly had a run in with the star while putting some finishing touches on a set—a friend of his wrote on her blog that just a few days ago the teacher's iPod rotated to a Madonna Mix he had made and "the volume suddenly increased to maximum level. He swung around... and there she was, smiling and pulsing a bit with the deafening beat of 'Ray Of Light.' She let him recover from the shock and said, 'That’s better!' and turned and went out of the shop and back to whatever celebrity-parent-at-school thing she was dealing with." Follow the sound of your own songs, that's one way to assure you're going to get recognized.

You dont hear about Courtney Love doing this but then again I doubt think anyone has a Hole Mix on their iPod.

  • The next time I hear about a celebrity acting aloof or standoffish, I will try to remember this story, and how a completely mundane encounter with Madonna was deemed fit to tell, recount second-hand, and then circulate on the Internet.

I think it's safe to say that Lourdes will be getting all A's.

But I really commend Madonna and her daughter for going to LaGuardia. She could've gone to any school in the world but she chose our public school, that's great. Just the fact that they don't mind being around ordinary folk is huge because most these other celebrities gasp at just the idea of being around regular people. I was never really been a big fan of Madonna but the humility of send her daughter to public school, in the middle of Manhattan, is very endearing.

    Well said.

why do celebrities children always have to end up trying to be in the business. when you have everything in the world, surely there is a better way to contribute to it than acting or singing. there are plenty of other naturally talented people out there who could use a shot.

why not study something a bit more meaningful that combined with your priveleged place in the world could actually do some good for others.

then again, i do love me some drew barrymore

I go the other way on this one. I think it's admirable that Madonna took the "Want to be in the business? Then work hard and learn your craft" route.

Lourdes seems to have a good head on her shoulders.

Also, regarding all those unconnected aspiring performers. I'm sure the friends that Lourdes makes as she studies her craft and starts her career will benefit from her connections.

Neuroses often make for good art, and neuroses usually cluster in families.

Exactly, if not for Drew, who would date our reluctant rockstars and not-really-actors?
