12 Dumbest Things New Yorkers Don't Actually Do

Recently, TruTV came out with a list of the "12 Dumbest Things New Yorkers Do," and while they have some valid points, we'd like to know where they're getting their information. We'll admit that waiting over an hour on line for brunch can be a pretty dumb idea, but eating Burger King's NY Pizza burger? Who does that? (Besides us.)

Honking at cars waiting for old ladies to cross the street, walking on a treadmill when there's a perfectly good sidewalk outside and driving drunk are all dumb things we can be guilty of, but save for that first one those decisions aren't exclusive to New York. Neither is trusting your money to a New Yorker, and we're pretty sure a lot of the people paying to sleep on the floor of the Natural History Museum aren't from around here. And does anyone know anyone who gets excited seeing Chris Noth on the street? Sex and the City ended six years ago, people, get over it.

If they changed it to "The Dumbest Thing New Yorkers Do" and then just had that picture of people waiting in line at Good Enough To Eat then it would be a great list.

I hate it when unfunny people try to be funny. This reads like one of the Cathy-style complaint lists in Cosmopolitan.

Transplants who move here and try to change the city make no sense. Obviously, their hometown didn't work out the first time around either...but, then again, sometimes transplants have good points. Like, they have interesting perspectives on not being mugged or raped by every common real estate agent & thug.

I kind of agree with the one about entrusting your money to a new yorker - the cost of business here is too high considering all the other business which have moved out of the city & still stayed profitable. Somebody spending 5 mil of their own money on a two bedroom isn't a savy "investor", they are a sucker who funnel's his commissions into someone elses pockets before the SEC catches up with them.

Probably written by a recent transplant, who dreamt of living here all his life and now wants to change NYC to make it more like their hometown.

I never understood the logic in that.

Excuse me, I'll get excited over seeing Detective Mike Logan if I want to.

This just has "hipster" written all over it....

This is maybe one of the stupidest, most ridiculous lists I've ever seen. I like how they mention the idea of going to Times Square to get that stupid Burger King New York Pizza Burger... ummm, yeah, this is why your list is stupid: New Yorkers aren't going to Times Square.

totally second this. why don't we have an article that documents all the awesome things we do in fact do? why be negative and flat-out wrong at the same time?

  • inoyourider

I'd be surprised to find anyone but tourists at the Times Square Burger King.

Dumb to root for the Mets eh. I get it, we're all supposed to be frontrunners and root for the Yankees.

If it were possible to have a sleepover at the Natural History Museum when I was a kid, I would had jumped at the chance. That seems really fun, as opposed to dumb.

My nephews' boy scout troop had a night a few years ago at the Museum where they watched "Night at the Museum" and then slept in the rotonda in sleeping bags. They still talk about it, so I guess it was totally fuckin rad.

    #13 Spell the word treadmill.

I agree. Most of these idiots who try to come up with "things new yorkers like", etc lists have no idea what they're talking about and end up looking like morons while thinking that they're so smart and witty.

That slideshow should be in another slideshow called "Worst Top 12 Lists of All Time".
