Open House New York (OHNY) is back for another year, opening usually closed doors to the public. They've now announced this year's offerings, and you can sign up now to reserve spots (though some tours do not require reservations); the event takes place October 9th and 10th. The weekend is free of charge, but they're offering up a $150 Passport, which will allow you and a guest front-of-the-line access at all sites and programs that do not require advance reservations.

Some of the spots you can check out include the Fort Tryon Park Heather Garden & Fort Tryon Cottage (Queens), the Conference House (Staten Island), Bartow-Pell Mansion (the Bronx), the Gatehouse (Manhattan), and for the daring, the Gowanus Canal Sponge Park (Brooklyn).

If you check out some spots, send us your photos or tag them "Gothamist" on Flickr!

OHNY is a joke. Some of the best sites require a reservation and are already booked. And they were limited to handful of people such as two tours of 20 people each - in a city of 8 million. Brilliant. I don't know when they put the list up on the website but when I checked last week it wasn't up and when I checked yesterday it was and many tours were full. Congratulations to those that got reservations and a warning to anyone planning on heading out that weekend with the printed guide: throw it away. They keep making changes adding and eliminating sites. Sites that are supposed to be open may very well be closed when you show up. Check the website before leaving your home.

Great to see they're doing this again--I also think you might have misidentified the location of Fort Tryon, as it is in Manhattan as opposed to Queens. I went to the heather garden last month for the first time and it's a great spot to visit!
