Investigators at 2 Gold Street (WCBS 2)
Just past midnight, police were called to a luxury apartment building in the Financial District. When they arrived, they found a man shot in the head inside 2 Gold Street. Max Moreno, a 21-year-old NJ resident, was pronounced dead at Bellevue Hospital.

According to WABC 7, Moreno was "reportedly shot in an apartment on the third floor" and police believe that he was "selling drugs to his killers," who apparently fled the building to the Staten Island Ferry Terminal. Additionally, WABC 7 spoke to a one resident who explained "many younger people are college students rent in the building, so the name of the tenant doesn't always match the name on the lease. Beacuse of that, the resident says, not all guests are signed in at the front desk like they are supposed to be. There are security cameras in the front of the building."

At first it looks easy. You get the connect, spread the word, get the odd knocking on the door at weird hour, open an unmarked bank account and then one day something terrible happens….

I don't know if he was in fact selling them drugs or if whenever cops see a hispanic college student shot in a luxury building a few blocks from his school they automatically assume he was selling drugs. The fact remains that even if he was selling the drugs he was the victim here and there's a murderer on the loose.

For all we know he got caught up in some kind of love triangle and was shot because of it. It seems to me that the NYPD keeps coming up with these scenarios without even carefully investigating first, just like they did with the diplomat in the Bronx. They outed him as a homosexual by speculating that he was killed as a result of a scorned gay lover with no proof to back it up and now they turned around and said it was a suicide. The NYPD needs to be more responsible when they make their speculations public.

Whatever happened to "no comment, we can't speak on it because the investigation is ongoing." Seems a lot more professional and respectful of the victims and their friends and families.

What does a fire alarm evacuation have to with the crime scene 3 blocks away? (and more importantly where are they gonna get their drugs from now?)

Drug mules are a dime a dozen any reputable dealer has a backup waiting and ready to go.

Not quite sure exactly how it was related, if at all. Very curious, though.

I see the kid who is shot being hustled out on a gurney with 6 EMTS trying to revive him; there are cops running all over the place trying to find the shooter, and then I turn the corner to see that the street is over-run with Pace students. Kids from the same building as the kid who was shot, apparently. I spoke to one of the students and said it was just a fire drill and that he had no idea about the shooting. My guess...he was the shooter trying to throw me off his trail. I'll get you yet random Pace kid!

Hmm, and there was just a non-fatal shooting in the EV over a drug deal in an apartment. Is this a trend or are these incidents just now coming to light?

well, the economy is bad, and more people are cheating, so any business skirting on illegal activities will be more open to do shadier things.

  • Quite common now. lots of students selling drugs. When will they bust the big ring in Columbia University?

Hey, he has to pay off his student loans somehow.

He went to Pace Univ a few blocks away. 2 Gold is very expensive too.

And Pace had the brilliant idea to empty out their dorm for a fire drill while the cops were frantically looking for the shooter. Nothing like putting 200 kids out on the street a block away from an active crime-scene...
