Arrest Made In Seton Hall Shooting

092710shooting.jpg Police have arrested a suspect in connection with Saturday morning's shooting at an off-campus frat party near Seton Hall University, and now they're searching for the person who supplied him with the gun. Nicholas Welch, 25, was arrested at his home last night, just doors away from the scene of the party. He was charged with murder, conspiracy and weapons offenses.

The second man, 19-year-old Marcus Bascus, will face the same charges when he is arrested for supplying Welch with the 357- or .38-caliber gun he used to open fire at the party, killing one and injuring four others. Police put the block on lockdown and interviewed witnesses, including one man who said he saw a man with a beard get turned away at the door, walk to a man standing on the curb and say "Give me the burner." He said of the arrest, "It's a relief. It was scary to think that he (the suspected gunman) was so close by still."

According to police records, Welch has multiple prior arrests for drug possession, and he is being held in lieu of $2 million bail. East Orange Police Director Jose Cordero described him as a "coward with a gun."

I think the reason these people use guns to shoot and kill others- is because the bullets are so cheat! They're under a dollar apiece!! Sheesh! What a bargain is that?!?

I think that bullets should cost a lot more: say at lest $2. each one! That would sure stop these randon shooting, because people would save those expensive bullets to shoot people the knew and actually 'wanted' to kill- instead of just shooting up a party for fun-

Lets make shooting people expensive- or at least TAX those bullets heavily so fewer people will be shot randomly!! Shooting people is no joke- it should be treated seriously by the State's Taxing Authority!

There were already thugs at the party and I wouldn't be surprised if any of them had weapons on them.

    Oh you were there?

So please tell me more about these College Student Thugs.

Do you think that the girl who was shot was actually trying to pull out her gun?

Also why didn't these other thugs shoot back?

    Stunning.

Good thing the cops didn't try to break up the party full of (at the moment before the shooting) law-abiding people.

    Totally different circumstances.

There's hundreds, if not thousands, of parties in any given city on the weekends without any problems, should the cops go and break up every one of them because someone might show up uninvited and because they're turned away start shooting and kill someone?

    Totally different circumstances.

There are hundreds, if not thousands, of drunks driving in any given city on the weekends without any problems, should the cops go and arrest every one of them because someone might run a red light kill someone?

  • Dogsbody

    Terrible analogy.

Driving under the influence is a crime in itself, regardless of whether an accident happens, hence why the police stop drunk drivers.

Being drunk at a party is not a crime...hence why cops can't just go and break up a party unless there is an actual crime occurring.

  • 5borough

I seriously doubt there weren't numerous crimes going on at either party. Illegal drug use, underage drinking, etc.

Have you always had clairvoyant capabilities?

Strange. He doesn't look like the type. I wonder if it's the right guy...
