Just In Time For Winter: Live In A Plastic Shed

plastichouserent.jpg

When you see what appears to be a children's plastic toy house on Craigslist renting for $500 a month, and located in someone's backyard in Greenpoint, you begin to wonder if this Onion article was for real. Bushwick trailer parks, dudes living in tents, and now an 8' x 10' Rubbermaid shed being rented as a studio apartment?! The listing has been removed, so either the ladies trying to cash in on what appears to be their smoking shed found a renter, or found a conscience. [via Gawker]

$500 bucks to live in a plastic shed outdoors-only in New York...

The economy is getting so bad that I don't doubt that it will get to this.

Even if it's not true, it's only a matter of time.

I don't see any indication from the listing that they're trying to rent it out as a studio APARTMENT, but just as a "studio," as in an artist's studio; a place to work.

Well, the ad does say that it has been "occupied" in the past during spring and summer and has been enjoyed by "those who lived there." While they're primarily offering it a working studio, they are saying that open to having it used as a residence.

But they do clearly state that it probably wouldn't be suitable for that use in the winter.

this is totally real. i live next door to this "shed" i'm pretty sure there is a girl living inside of it right now. i've watched her do some kind of interpretive dance to a lady gaga song over the summer.

this has to be a 'conceptual art' joke

Only a fool would think that they could survive a New York winter in a plastic shed!!!! Renting out a plastic shed must be against the law. This is ridiculous.

  • Nyctini11

Yeah, i'd have to say classifies as an illegal conversion, to put it mildly.
