Guess The Year: Flower Edition

What year did this woman buy potted flowers in? Put your best guess in the comments (and the borough if you're feeling lucky), and we'll update later with the answer.

UPDATE: This photo was taken in April of 1949, as part of a LIFE magazine photo series called "Spring Comes To Brooklyn." We've added some more photos from that series above. Now... get out there an enjoy the crisp Fall weather!

    Dear Brooklyn,

    You suck!

In fact, it is ironic just how much you suck.

    Love,

    Manhattan & Queens

Where are the trees? There seem to be no trees or even greenery in front of any of those houses.

"In what year did Mr.X do Y?"

Not "What year did Mr.X do Y in?"

  • lilmama

1947, Brooklyn (Brooklyn Heights or Ft. Greene area)

If I had to guess a street it would be Pierrepont St.

Um...the car says earliest 1940s, the ladies hairstyles are short but not too short. Her shoes aren't made of cork or whatever and the fact that she's buying flowers mean it's after the war. License plate before 1951? The guy reminds me of Patrick Dempsey....

so I'll go with 1948, Manhattan ... Inwood perhaps.

I don't know... that stoop behind the woman is not a very common style in Brooklyn. I would guess the Bronx, early 40's.

ok, so i've devised a whole new strategy. what you do is to get stoned like a motherfucker and immerse yourself in the photo. talk to the people. and eventually (yet non-threateningly) ask what year this is...

    (500,000 yea... ur, milliseconds later...)

...ok, so this was in park slope, and the flower lady told me, "the year is late 1920's, like 1928" -- she was not that bright.

oh, and the woman sitting behind her told me that her husband is on "vacation", which made me recoil in shudder.

    *recoil and shudder.

1943. during "The Big One" because of the short hair. The flower peddler had scoliosis and bad eyesight, but he saw some action too- if you get my drift.
