Cuomo Calls Paladino A "Welfare King"

2010_09-onejob.jpg Andrew Cuomo must hate proving Eliot Spitzer right, but he did today: Cuomo released his first TV attack ad of the gubernatorial race against Republican Carl Paladino. In the ad (which you can see below), Cuomo calls Paladino an Albany-insider with shady business dealings, and a "welfare king"!

Prominently featured in the ad is the allegation that Paladino received a $1.4 million state tax break to create jobs, but created only one. The ad comes after Spitzer criticized Cuomo's "Rose Garden" campaign yesterday, and intimated that Cuomo would be slinging mud with Paladino soon enough.

In response to Spitzer's comment that Cuomo is the "dirtiest, nastiest political player out there" yesterday, Cuomo spokesman Josh Vlasto said, "The attorney general's record, credibility and honor speak for themselves, as do Mr. Spitzer's."

Look at these people defending Paladino's fraudulent behavior. So it's ok to cheat on your taxes? Incredible!

If he didn't provide the estimated number of jobs to get the $1.4 million tax break then why didn't he do the ethical thing and correct his tax return?

The man is a scam. Anyone that thinks he's really going to change things is delusional. He won't be able to change anything just like Spitzer wasn't able to change anything. No ONE person can change the system, we the voters, need to vote all the bad and corrupt ones out of office and replace enough of them until it makes a difference. He doesn't even want to change the system but he says it because he knows this is what people want to hear. I have a secret for you guys, he's not really going to hit anyone with a baseball bat and by the way wrestling is not real either, it just all looks and sounds good for the cameras.

Do you guys really think that Paladino is mad and wants to change the system that made him rich? Why? It's working perfectly well for him and his friends.

    Don't fall for the bullshit.

If the so-called tax break was such a bad deal, shouldn't the state be considered more at fault for giving it?

NY is already taxed to the hilt, and much of that money is pissed away so I don't blame anybody, rich, middle class or otherwise who tries to give Albany as little $$$ as possible.

Do you have any conception of how Empire Zones worked? I'm guessing not a clue. Businesses state on their application how many jobs they plan to create, the state gives the break if it looks good, then it's up to the business to create said jobs. Paladino, like way too many Empire Zone recipients, took the money but didn't create the promised jobs.

    It's Josh Vlasto.

of course, paladino is an albany insider. you don't get to be a millionaire real estate developer in the wonderful city of Buffalo as an outsider.

  • sfgal82

Poor Andrew seems to have lost some of his mud-slinging skills. Remember what he did to Mayor Koch? The Empire Zones were created by Albany politicians to attract business. How many people did he need to run a company that buys distressed real estate, hires contractors to fix them up and then rents the space to tenants? One person is sufficient, I will guess that in a Cuomo situation he'd hire 34 people to do this job.

Unfortunately, the Empire Zones all pooped out, no businessman in his right mind would put up with all the corruption, requests for handouts, high tax and energy costs to build in a boom-town like Buffalo except Paladino. At least this shows he didn't fill the payroll of his redevelopment corporation with relatives the way they do in Brooklyn and the Bronx! He has tried for years to prevent Buffalo going the way of Detroit, with it's 1000% democratic government. Go Carl!

If you like the idea of government essentially handing out $1.4 million dollars to create one job, you are more clueless than anyone on this board.

  • Spirit of 76

Oops. $1.4 million or 1.4 million dollars. But you get the gist of it.

  • bonu$baby

YES I am glad someone else brings this up. His homophobic smear campaign against Ed Koch was deplorable and should not be forgotten.

  • Stevennnn

The lesser of the two evils is Paladino. Cumo brings the same junk to the table.

  • Spirit of 76

It always amazes me how people like you automatically assume that change must be good.

  • Stevennnn

I rather take that chance. Albany needs dramatic change.

  • Spirit of 76

Then, for lack of a better phrase, you are a complete moron. Take chances with your own wallet. Don't risk the rest of the state. I'd rather have the devil I know than the devil I don't know.

  • You want a Teabagger that hates NYC?

    OOOOOkkkkkk...
