Decaffeinated Carl Goofs On First Public-Policy Effort

92210paladino.jpg Earlier today, Mayor Bloomberg gave his endorsement for governor to Andrew Cuomo, leaving mad-as-hell Republican candidate Carl Paladino very sad indeed. But instead of letting that sadness boil over and ferment into the frothy brew of rage and photoshopping skills that it usually does, Paladino was on his best behavior the last couple days during a visit to NYC.

One Republican source told the Daily News, "The last 24 hours, he's looked more like 'decaffeinated Carl' or 'Carl light,' where he's still saying what's on his mind, but he's being less bombastic." He talked shop with former Gov. George Pataki, hired a former Pataki aide as his campaign chairwoman, met with Jewish leaders in Brooklyn, and generally tried to stick to talk about issues instead of desperately trying to prove he's no racist.

Sadly, one of his first attempts at a public-policy effort broke down completely. On John Gambling's WOR-AM show, Paladino announced his "blue-ribbon tax cut team;" but two of those memebers, CNBC business-show host Larry Kudlow and former state Comptroller Ned Regan, said they knew nothing of the panel and hadn't talked to Paladino anytime recently. Regan told the Post he wouldn't serve, and Kudlow laughed maniacally when asked. Cuomo wasted no time seizing on the goof: "I guess it's a new twist on the old theory that it's easier to apologize later than ask for permission first. So much for his first attempt at substance," said Cuomo spokesman Phil Singer.

This is straight out of The West Wing - check out "Ellie" from season 2. Toby makes a press announcement about a senator joining a "Blue Ribbon Panel" on Social Security, knowing he can't refuse or he'll look bad.

Aside from being a psycho, Paladino is also a liar.

I can't imagine how anyone can find this lunatic fit to run this state.

    It goes something like this:

"Hey, that guy's not so bad. He says things / promotes ideas / forwards emails that I've only thought about saying / promoting / forwarding. Besides, Albany is a clusterfuck, and the last thing we need is another typical politician with so-called progressive ideas. And if the pointy heads in Manhattan despise this guy, there must be something good about him."

or maybe people get mad and feel hopeless so they irrational. Then a person comes along and tells them exactly what they want to hear and, out of desperation and fear, they fall for it. The problem is that what he's saying is not true and can never be but since it sounds good people start believing the impossible. So the candidate runs on nothing more than impossible threats.

In case you didn't know he's not going to hit anyone with a baseball bat and the truth is that, contrary to what he says, he's not really that mad at Albany because this system has made him a very rich man. Why would you change the system that's making you rich, unless of course if you want to change it to a system that will make you even richer.

Don't let your anger cloud your judgement.

    VOTE FOR CUOMO!

because the other guy is a liar.

Yeah, pretty much like anybody else who isn't as blind as our current governor.
