Knicks Realize NYC Hates The Knicks

2008_12_knickslogo.jpg The NY Times has an article about a new ad agency (okay, "brand studio"), named Co:, formed by former top JWT executives. One of the agency's clients is a certain struggling basketball franchise: "Howard Jacobs, senior vice president for marketing and ticket sales at the MSG Sports unit of Madison Square Garden, said he was attracted to Co: because the task he confronts — 'how do you reignite the deeply passionate relationship that existed between the City of New York and the Knicks?' — is 'so clearly not an "advertising exercise"' but rather requires 'a multidisciplinary approach, part strategy, part storytelling, part brand creation, part technology, part design.'" Um, how about winning some games?

"how do you reignite the deeply passionate relationship that existed between the City of New York and the Knicks?"

Get rid of Dolan and start winning.

    That's all we ask.

ever since the Knicks got rid of Jerome James they have been on my shit list

We don't hate the Knicks - but we do hate Dolan and realize that the team is never going to be competitive as long as current ownership remains. Sell! Sell! Sell!

  • verbal

Sell the team = instant love.

New Yorkers will never admit it, but just like every other city in America, our sports teams become more popular when they win, and less popular when they lose.

Agreed with this, 100% The #1 PR move for any sports franchise is to win, or at least appear like they are doing everything in their power to not lose.

The Garden almost always sells out even in this last pitiful decade. There aren't too many other cities that can make the same claim even when there team does well.

Putting James Dolan in a pillory in front of Madison Square Gardens would be a healthy start.

"Um, how about winning some games?"

That would work, but Knicks management have demonstrated that they don't have any idea how to do it, nor any ability to identify competent "consultants" from outside the organization who might assist.

So it makes sense to get some outside help in finding some other way.

    NYC doesn't hate the knicks.

we hate the Knicks' owner - James friggin Dolan.

  • spiritross

    Preach on!

    Down with Dolan!

  • JenChungsBaby

How about bringing back Patrick Ewing, Charles Oakley, John Starks, Derek Harper and Anthony Mason? That would help.

  • ktinnyc

Dolan hates those old Knicks. I've heard Oakley interviewed and confirms this.

  • JenChungsBaby

Getting rid of the Dolans would help a lot too.

One thing that won't help is trying to hire Isiah Thomas again.

  • ktinnyc

I've been with the Knicks through thick and thin and bringing back Isiah is the only thing that would make me stop being a fan. Isiah comes back and I'm jumping on the OK Thunder bandwagon.
