Today, the names of the 2,752 victims of the September 11, 2001 attacks at the World Trade Center are being read at Zuccotti Park. The names are being recited by family members paired with members of the rebuilding, and there are moments of silence at 8:46 a.m. (observance of time first plane struck North Tower), 9:03 a.m. (observance of time second plane struck South Tower) 9:59 a.m. (observance of time of fall of the South Tower) and 10:29 a.m. (observance of time of fall of the North Tower).

Today is a day of service and there are other ceremonies around the city (FYI, the National 9/11 Memorial & Museum Preview site on Vesey is open only to victims' families and those closely impacted by the attacks today, but the Tribute WTC Visitor Center on Liberty Street will be open at 2 p.m., after the reading) but the , but one of the quieter, and very beautiful, ceremonies is the New York Buddhist Church's 9/11 Floating Lanterns Ceremony, which echoes the floating lanterns ceremony in Japan for the victims of the Hiroshima bombing. At Pier 40 on the Hudson River, people are invited to "come early to write loved ones’ names or a peace
message on a lantern" and then set them in the river (6 p.m.; PDF).

Yes,this "liberal" was crying re-watching MSNBC real

time historic coverage,I was downtown at city hall

    when the first plane hit.

    I am also against 51Park.

Back to your Glen Beck TV and Rush the pill head radio shows.

libs are awfully silent. (I guess they're too busy writing dissertations on why muslim children should be allowed to wear suicide bombs to public schools.)

And I thought you said you'd never forget?

  • stnyc

    hahaha well said!

Simple people need simple labels to make sense of a complex world. So dumbasses like you need to lump together millions of your fellow Americans and demonize them as "the other." It soothes your fragile ego and gives you a false sense of superiority.

But don't worry, I'm sure that if Big Brother ever came after you, there'd be a hated lib ready to defend you.

So keep hating and being ignorant. Your nonsense helps shed light on the mindset that we're collectively evolving out of, so it serves a valuable purpose. We can't recognize beauty without knowing its opposite.

If there were ever a day people should put aside their hatred for each other, you'd think it would be today. On that note, I forgive you for your insulting and odious beliefs, and hope you live a life full of happiness and peace.

  • stnyc

you're the only one that sounds ignorant.

  • VanessaNYC

Yes, the Libs are participating in a moment of silence and respect. You might want to do the same.

  • dgeee

I'm not a lib but I do notice conservatives and flag waving a*s-carrots begin thumping their chests and foaming at the mouth the evening of 9/10, even if they were in Idaho on 9/11.

I think I know what I'm going to write on one of those lanterns.
