Three Guns Used In Deliveryman Sniper Shooting

Police believe the rooftop shooter responsible for sending a bullet through bread deliveryman Jorge Martinez's head on Saturday night may not have been working alone. Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly told reporters police have determined "that three guns were used." Police found 22 shell casings on nearby rooftops, all of which came from 9-mm. handguns.

Though police say the shooting seemed to be random, they have yet to determine whether the shooters were targeting Martinez or whether they were just testing their guns. Police are currently questioning eight suspects in the shooting. All the suspects are from the Marlboro houses in Gravesend and were arrested on unrelated warrants, and residents say the 7th floor apartment of the building was known for having drug using inhabitants. It was also a scene of a party at the time of the shooting, but police have not determined if any of the suspects live in that apartment.

Police initially believed the shooter was practicing with his gun, and aimed at random targets. But one cop said, "If he had no problem shooting at cars like that, he's the kind of guy that doesn't care about human life."

The law and order situation of the city is deteriorating day by day. Police must take concrete steps to instill confidence and a sense of security among the citizens.

Only two things seem to be clear one man was shot and killed and the NYPD has no idea of who shot him or why. I would rather that the NYPD just says "we're still investigating" than that they start coming up with scenarios out of thin air. He could've been targeted for any reason. Maybe it was a gang initiation, maybe it was a hate crime targeting a latino, maybe it was a person who had a problem with this particular guy, maybe it was someone target practicing, maybe its a serial, maybe it was more than one guy or girl, the point is that at this point it seems they have no idea and the guys they're questioning who were picked up on unrelated warrants probably shouldn't be labeled "suspects" unless some evidence ties them to the case.

I'm glad they're actively working on this case but I hope they keep investigating and not let some guess or theory lead them in the wrong direction. If they don't have a motive or suspect then just say that and keep investigating.

Well if he WAS shot from the roof of a seven story building, I think you can rule out the idea that this guy was specifically targeted for any particular reason.

But yeah, you're right the cops should just say they're "still investigating". I don't see the benefit of the police publicizing their speculation.

Two thoughts :

Firstly the fact that shell casings from three different guns were found on the rooftop does not necessarily imply the shooter was not working alone. It could imply (a) one single shooter was testing out three guns or

(b) casings from two of the guns were already there prior to this incident, neither scenario is too hard to believe in some neigborhoods.

Secondly, this guy fired a 9mm handgun from the roof of a seven story building, and got a headshot on a guy in a moving vehicle in the street below?? Only one person could have pulled off such a stunt intentionally - Angelina Jolie.
