Inwood Hill Park "Perfect Place" For Sexual Assault

090810ihp.jpg Police are searching for the man responsible for groping a 23-year-old female jogger in Inwood Hill Park on August 31st, and neighbors are shaken about the incident. One local told the Daily News, "Just shows how careful you need to be everywhere." Though perhaps one must be a little more careful in that park, as apparently it's a dream come true for pervs. Student Audrina Cruz said, "This place is so big, it'd be the perfect place for something like that to happen. There's so much space to hide and run." In 2004, the body of a Juilliard student was in the park; her killer still has not been found.

There are certainly very lonely places in Inwood Hill Park because a large forest makes up the bulk of it. And I do agree that people need to be careful when and where they exercise when it comes to parks. However, the victim of this crime was not running in an area that is usually devoid of people nor was she running during a time when the park is typically empty. There is usually quite a bit of traffic from commuters and exercisers at that time of morning. This perp just got lucky. This was a crime of opportunity, not a case of a victim who misjudged where and when she should be running.

Corny? The victim bears some responsibility for their own safety. Lesson learned.

Creeps hang out in Parks....creeps run alone....blame the victim is so corny but often times naive people forget what NYC is....a dangerous big city where gasp....bad things happen to innocent people.

Ladies please stop jogging alone in deserted parks, please for your own good. Try to get a jogging buddy or something. Also the sexy sweaty catsuits, while I personally appreciate it, are not in your best interests. They may be appropriate for the gym but not in isolated areas of NYC.

I'm not blaming the victim here, it's just some friendly advice. In a perfect world things like this wouldn't happen but please bear in mind this is NYC.

"the sexy sweaty catsuits, while I personally appreciate it"...now THIS we can agree on!

Ssshhh... don't tell everyone!!! I don't want my favorite groping spot overrun by tourists and transplants!

Yes, I remember that mess with the Fox case all to well- The "PERSON OF INTEREST" was my neighbor and has since left the country. Another victory for the 34th precint! Perhaps this park is a target for crime not because of its size- but because the cops are scared to go in the woods! That would involve getting out of the car! Everytime something happens the cops make a big show for a few weeks and then dissapear until the next incident.

Yeah, I'd give my eyeteeth to know the full story of what happened with that investigation. If (and maybe that's a big if) the reports were accurate, he all but walked into the stationhouse and said "hi, I totally raped and killed her." Either the leaks were bullshit or someone messed up very, very badly.

Fox's killer was found very quickly. He was not, however, prosecuted.
