Staten Island: School Bus Cuts? We Out

090710si.jpg After years of putting up with disrespect from City Hall (and really, everyone else), the forgotten borough of Staten Island may be contemplating going it alone. After City Hall cut bus service for 3,000 middle schoolers, State Senator Andy Lanza recently asked,"Secession, anyone? Are we ready to talk about it now?" Lanza already attempted to introduce secession legislation in 2009, but says the Republicans need to re-take the senate for the bill to get the support it needs. He said, "Can it happen? I’m not sure. But it’s a conversation that has to be had." Perhaps they can join up with "Strong Island" and fund their government with professional GTL services.

SI smells like NJ, it belongs to NJ

Why not just make all the counties in every state ONE state?

John Carpenter had the right idea, but the wrong location. He should have sent Snake Plissken into a maximum security prison made from Staten Island, not Manhattan. That's appropriate considering the two-legged animals there that we've read about in recent months. Just stock Kill van Kull with piranha and crocodiles to keep prisoners from escaping to Jersey and we'd be set.

I vote for Escape from Staten Island. Anyone up for remaking the old movie?

Well..... What if we just traded SI to NJ for Hudson Country?

    Fair is fair, right?

Then all these NJ sports teams like the New Jersey Jets, and the New Jersey Giants and even the New Jersey Red Bulls would play in NY.

    think about it...

Only 1/2 right. NY runs the mta which operates the Vz Br and NYC opertates the ferry.

Oh please. This is a conversation that has been tried and failed. The talking heads are right. Republicans really don't have any new ideas.

  • kevd

    Awesome.

Then they'll have to pay the same ridiculous toll on the Vz. Bridge everyone else in NYC pays. Maybe they can start chipping for their ferry, too.

  • Kojak

    Go ahead. We don't care.

Honestly. If you think you can get by without NYC subsidizing your asses, then be my guest.
