Intrepid Close To Landing Space Shuttle

shuttlenyc.jpg Is a space shuttle on its way to NYC? After much rallying to get a retired space shuttle on deck of the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space museum, it may actually be happening. The Daily News reports that Senator Chuck Schumer believes the city will win one of the shuttles from NASA. Allegedly a few sources have told him that the Intrepid is ahead in the game of landing one, and he said yesterday, "I believe we are in good shape. It's not a done deal, but the arguments we have made about why the shuttle belongs in New York are resonating."

I still don't understand why they retired the SR-71 Blackbird.

    $$$$$

The plane is a pain in the ass to maintain. Plus the U-2 & Spy Satellites do just as good a job with reconnaissance. NASA does keep a couple planes active for research flights.

As for the the Shuttle, they don't need to place it on the flight deck. They'll probably anchor it to the side of the ship on a barge as they did with Concorde when it first arrived.

The Intrepid already has the Concorde, where are they going to put a space shuttle?

  • Cranky Old Man

The Space Shuttle is way too heavy to place onto the deck of the Intrepid. Case closed.

  • SP's Ghost

how many more things can they fit on that boat?
