Queens Man Unsuccessfully Tries Stashing Pot In Cop Car

Just because new research suggests that marijuana isn't really a gateway drug doesn't mean we should be encouraging every numbskull with a pair of lips to smoke. Case-in-point: A Delaware state trooper stopped Edward Peterson, 24, and an unnamed companion early this morning for speeding on the Coastal Highway in Dewey Beach, Del.. He strongly suspected they had been smoking marijuana, but didn't realize they had been smoking idiotjuana.

The officer made Peterson, of Jamaica, Queens, and the friend wait in his patrol car while he searched their Chevy Impala. He found nothing, and returned to his car, where it smelled a little like a Phish concert. After a search, he discovered that Peterson had tried to hide 1.8 grams of weed in the seat of his patrol car. Back in March, a similar incident occurred, but at least that guy had the decency to mistakenly leave it in the cop car. Grandmas everywhere are disappointed.

Happens all the time, if not pot some kind of contraband. That's why standard procedure at NYPD and pretty much every police department is that the car has to be searched after anyone is transported.

In fact, I can't really figure out why this is in a newspaper. I guess because it happened in Delaware and involved someone from NYC. NYPD wouldn't bother to tell the press about something this routine.
